The 100 Casting Update: Brenda Strong To Appear As Ice Nation Leader
For a show whose main cast consists of teenagers, the CW’s “The 100”, surprisingly, is adding more and more adults every day to the cast of the young adult post-apocalyptic drama. More often than not, the adults in the world of “The 100” are figures of authority, and do influence them as a whole, although at times, the young leaders of the Grounders and Camp Jaha do prove themselves to be their equal. This trend also proves itself to be true with regards to the most recently reported adult addition to the cast of the upcoming third season. The world of “The 100,” although ruled primarily by teenagers, such as Bellamy Blake (Bob Morley) and Clark Griffin (Eliza Taylor). It also consists of adults, who usually serve as figures of authority or as people who are very much influential in the lives of these teenagers.
Such examples of these would be Clark’s mother, Abby Griffin (Paige Turco); former Chancellor Theolonius Jaha (Isaiah Washington); former Chancellor Marcus Kane (Henry Ian Cusick); and Chief Indra (Adina Porter) of Tondc, who belongs to the Grounder Woods Clan.
According to a recent report on Entertainment Weekly, the newest adult addition to the cast for the third season of the CW show, also follows this same trend. It was reported that actress Brenda Strong, who is most known for her roles as Mary Alice Young in “Desperate Housewives” and as Ann Ewing on “Dallas,” will be portraying the role of Queen Nia, the leader of the Ice Nation or Ice Clan of the Grounders.
In the mythology of the television series, this clan or nation has been mentioned several times before, and members of their clan have appeared in the past two seasons. The Grounder Echo, and two Ice Nation members who appeared during the Coalition Meeting with Grounder Commander Lexa (Alycia Debnam-Carey) before the Grounders and the Sky People attacked Mount Weather. Their clan or nation was also mentioned previously, as they had kidnapped and killed Lexa’s girlfriend when the Woods Nation was at war with the Ice Nation.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Strong’s Queen Nia is described as a powerful, “ruthless”, and manipulative leader, who, more often than not, clashes with her closest advisers due to the way she makes sure that she remains in power.
