12 Monkeys Recap: Shonin

“12 Monkeys” Season 1 Episode 11 “Shonin” aired last Friday, March 27, 2015 at 9:00 p.m. on SyFy. In this episode, James Cole (Aaron Stanford) and Jose Ramse (Kirk Avecedo) faced off in Tokyo. Leland Goines (Zeljko Ivanek) first encountered Cole and the virus. The true identity of the man called “The Witness” and more secrets were finally revealed with regards to the Army of the 12 Monkeys. Read on to learn more about this episode.

In Tokyo, in 1987, Jose Ramse (Kirk Avecedo) followed James Cole (Aaron Stanford) to the White Dragon night club. Leland Goines (Zeljko Ivanek) displayed no interest in the corpse from the Himalyas that was the origin of the virus. After a while, Cole grabbed him and began questioning him about the virus and the Army of the 12 Monkeys. He realized that the corpse that Goines was considering of not buying was the origin of the virus. However, before he could say anything else, Ramse slammed into him, and the two fought. They were later separated by the Japanese business man who threw a knife in between them to settle the score. Even though Cole was faster, Ramse managed to stab him. Goines then paid for the corpse and left a man to shoot Cole dead.

In 2043, the scientists discovered that they no longer had a lock on Cole as his vital signs were going down.

Ramse however, landed in a Japanese prison where he was beaten up by a big Japanese man. However, a woman named Olivia (Alisen Down) began sending him letters. She knew that he had travelled from a different time, and sent him books, such as the “Art of War.” In 1992, he managed to undermine his bully, and in 1995, he was freed, and was brought to Virginia.

There, he met Olivia, and the pale man (Tom Noonan), who told her that her father had been right. It was after they touched Ramse’s necklace with the pale man’s, which were the same. It created a paradox which made all the plants turn read.

Sixteen years later, thanks to Ramse’s knowledge of Cole, his time jumps and the future, they began to orchestrate events. They invested in Markridge. They sent the pale man to murder all the scientists to get to the Night Room. In 2014, with Henri Toussaint’s (Lyriq Bent) death by Cole, Ramse knew that Cole’s time jumps had begun.

Meanwhile, in J.D. People’s Mental Institute, after visiting Jennifer (Emily Hampshire), he left her there and agreed to take the deal with CIA, and began to contact Oliver Peters.

In 2015, Cole killed Goines, and the pale man got Jennifer out of J.D. Peoples. The pale man was upset that he had been shot. Olivia reminded him that everything must happen as it had happened because if not, then Ramse would never have come to them.

Cole then managed to destroy the origin of the virus, but they got Peters to make it for them. Olivia struck a deal with Aaron Marker (Noah Bean) so that Dr. Cassandra “Cassie” Railly (Amanda Schull) would be safe. Ramse then reassured her that Cole wouldn’t be a problem as his last time jump had been in 1987, and Ramse had killed him then. Afterwards, they began to work to unleash the plague. Also, he told her that Aaron couldn’t kill Cassie because if he did, Cassie would have never have left the message that started Cole’s journey. It meant that Ramse wouldn’t have been there either.

Meanwhile, in 2015, Cassie heard that Senator Royce was running for presidency and greeted a drunk Aaron. He told her that he had been deemed unworthy to help him in his campaign. He then told her that they could hide out the plague together. Cassie wouldn’t hear of it because she knew that the fight wasn’t over yet, and as she still had faith that Cole would return. Aaron then went over to Royce, who suggested that he work with a silent investor, Olivia, who was working on a project- several bunkers that would keep people safe in case of a widespread plague.

In order to further secure Ramse’s future, Olivia took Jennifer in and implanted the idea of being a “daughter” in her.

The scene then shifted to 2043, during the time jump of Cole to Tokyo. The Dr. Katarina Jones (Barbara Sukowa) ordered them to splinter Cole to 2015 as his vitals were getting weaker and weaker. After several days, Whitley (Demore Barnes) and their men left as they had given up hope, and her main scientist left as well, after she told him that she would never abandon the facility.

In 2015, Cassie entered her place and was alarmed to see a dying Cole lying down in a pool of blood on the floor. Cole then told her that the army had been one step ahead of them because of “The Witness,” and that he knew who he was- Ramse.
