2014 Billboard Music Awards Male Nominees for the 2014 Billboard Music Awards:
- Imagine Dragons (12 nominations)
The alternative rock band from Las Vegas makes their BBMA debut with 12 nominations in 2013. They are currently holding the largest number of nominations alongside Lorde.
- Justin Timberlake (11 nominations)
The former N’ SYNC member was also a no-show at the 2014 Grammys, where he won the Best Music Video award for “Suit & Tie.”
According to Hollywood News, he has never won a Billboard award. It was also reported that it was a case of bad timing. The music awards was in hiatus in 2007 until 2011, when Timberlake’s post-N’ SYNC streak was at its peak.
- Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (9 nominations)
Aside from Daft Punk, the indie duo also reaped major awards in the hip hop and rap category.
2014 Grammys fashion style: According to E Online, Lewis wore a Mr. Turk black sharp houndstooth suit with a black dress shirt, satin tie and two-toned loafers. On the other hand, Macklemore donned a dark teal velour suit and Guisepppe Zanotti studded slippers.
- Daft Punk (4 nominations)
Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter were the biggest winners at the 2014 Grammys. It will also mark their second televised appearance/performance in their 20-year old music career.
2014 Grammys fashion style: They are known as collaborators of the fashion house Yves Saint Laurent for their Music Project in 2013. So, its not surprising that they will be dressed by YSL from head to toe.
- Pharrell Williams (7 nominations)
Grammys’ Producer of the Year had made quite a statement when he wore a large bowler hat at the music event.
2014 Grammys style: He is not afraid to push fashion to its limits. Unknown to many, the iconic brown hat was actually a vintage piece from fashion designer Vivienne Westwood, as posted on People Style Watch.
- Robin Thicke (6 nominations)
2014 Grammys fashion style: The “Blurred Lines” hitmaker’s ensemble consisted of Giorgio Armani and David Yurman. His wife (or soon-to-be ex?) Paula Patton wore a zebra-printed dress by Nicolas Jebran.
- John Legend (2014 BBMA Milestone Award nominee)
John Legend serenaded the Grammys crowd with an emotional piano number of his song “All of Me.”
2014 Grammys fashion style: He is a handsome man in Gucci. His model wife Chrissy Teigen was a vision in a sequined Johanna Johnson gown. Several best-dressed lists including Perez Hilton considered the newlyweds as the golden couple of the 2014 Grammys.
It looks like the BBMA male nominees are veering away from traditional “penguin” suits or tuxedos and are experimenting with new styles, colours and prints like houndstooth, satin, velour, teal, big brown hats, vintage styles, etc. It is a welcome change and it makes the red carpet all the more exciting because it’s not just the women’s fashion people are looking at. Now, men in awards shows are stepping it up in the game of fashion.
