A&E’s The Returned
Resurrection-themed shows continue to be a trend as A&E develops the U.S. remake of the hit French series “Les Revenants” or “The Returned” with the help of former “Lost” co-showrunner Carlton Ruse. Members of the ensemble cast include Mark Pellegrino (“LOST”), scream queen actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Sandrine Holt (“House of Cards”), Agnes Bruckner (“24”), Kevin Alejandro, Sophie Lowe (“Once Upon a Time in Wonderland”), Mat Vairo (“Revolution”), and India Ennenga (“Treme”). Read on to find more about A&E’s upcoming series, “The Returned.”
The upcoming A&E series is the remake of Fabrice Gobert’s International Emmy-winning French series inspired by the 2014 UK film “They Came Back.” It is adapted to U.S. television by Carlton Cuse and Raelle Tucker of “True Blood.”
A&E continues its successful collaboration with Carlton Cuse after the successful on-going run of “Bates Motel” starring Freddie Highmore and Vera Farmiga, which started airing in 2013. Aside from the two projects with A&E, Cuse is also busy with the upcoming FX series, “The Strain” with Guillermo del Toro. It premieres on Sunday, July 13, 2014, at 10:00 p.m. on FX.
According to Deadline, A&E general manager David McKillop confirmed that the network ordered 10 episodes and tapped Cuse to lead the production. The big development was made after the network had finally got the rights for the series from its first supposed helmer, AbbottVision with FreeMantle Media production.
“The Returned has the potential to be one of the most compelling drama series on cable, thanks to phenomenal scripts written by Carlton and Raelle,” said McKillop in the Deadline article.
Cuse and Tucker will take on the role as executive producers and writers for the series. It was also said that Keith Gordon (“Dexter”) will direct, while Cuse will write the pilot episode.
Similar to its predecessor, the upcoming supernatural-suspense drama began after mysterious occurrences in a town happened. It involved the resurrection of some deceased loved ones of several town residents.
After four years of mourning, Jack (Mark Pellegrino) will finally meet again his teen twins Lena (Sophie Lowe) and Camille (India Ennenga). The 16-year-old twins had died in a mishap vehicle crash that included the school bus they rode.
Rowan (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) will have a “difficult time” adjusting over the return of her musician boyfriend Simon (Mat Vairo). Other cast members include Sandrine Holt as Julie, Agnes as the sheriff’s chief deputy and Kevin Alejandro as Sheriff Tommy Moran.
