Allison Williams to Play Peter Pan in NBC’s Live Musical
Allison Williams of “Girls” has landed the role of the famous titular character in NBC’s “Peter Pan Live!” Read on for more details about the story.
According to Variety, Allison Williams has been cast for the titular role of Peter Pan in NBC’s live television presentation for “Peter Pan Live!” Williams, daughter of NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams and TV producer Jane Gillan Stoddard, is known for her role as Marnie Michaels on the HBO comedy-drama series “Girls.” Williams, a classically trained singer, is also known for her online videos that achieved millions of views, most notably a mashup of “Nature Boy” set to RJD2’s “A Beautiful Mine” — the theme song for the television series “Mad Men” that convinced Judd Apatow that she should be given a part in the HBO series “Girls.”
Opposite her is Christopher Walken, playing the role of Captain Hook.
“We couldn’t be happier that Allison Williams is our Peter Pan. She’s a lovely rising star on the award-winning show Girls where she occasionally shows off her incredible vocal talent — and we think she will bring the perfect blend of ‘boyish’ vulnerability and bravado to save the day against Christopher Walken’s powerful Captain Hook,” said NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt in a statement published on Variety.
Williams remarked that she wanted to be Peter Pan ever since she was little.
“I have wanted to play Peter Pan since I was about three years old, so this is a dream come true. I’m very excited to get to work with this extraordinarily talented team. And besides, what could go wrong in a live televised production with simultaneous flying, sword fighting and singing?” noted Williams as posted on Variety.
Williams later shared on networking site Instagram a photo of her young self as Pan.
The original production featured iconic songs like “I’m Flying,” “Never Never Land,” “I Won’t Grow Up” and “I’ve Gotta Crow,” which also featured Mary Martin (Peter) and Cyril Ritchard (Captain Hook) — both won Tony Awards for their superb performances. Craig Zadan and Neil Meron will executively produce the live special. “Peter Pan Live!” will air Dec. 4, 2014.
