Read on to learn more about this episode.
In Mali, North Africa, Sergeant Odelle Ballard (Anna Friel) and her unit were surprised that they had managed to kill Abdul Abbass, a high ranking Al Quaeda leader. While waiting for a unit to arrive to their location for further orders, Odelle discovered that there were several encrypted files, and documents on Abbas’ laptop that showed that a wire transfer for a large amount of money to Abbas from Riyad, and that was stamped with the logo “SOC”.
That same logo was then shown to be on a cargo container, which was placed on a ship, that was being monitored by a former State Department lawyer turned corporate lawyer named Peter Decker (Peter Facinelli), who was currently supervising a merger between his company and Societelle Mining (SOC). However, on his way to work, he ran into an old friend from the Internal Revenue Service who got him worried as SOC was being investigated on. He then brought this to the attention of his friend, Joe Abrams (Darren Goldstein), who got a friend of his to dig into it.
Outside his office building, Harrison Wells (Jake Robinson), a trust fund baby and a political activist who was spearheading the current G8 protests, got interviewed by several news channels and invited Ruby Simms (Daniella Pineda), a reporter from TIME magazine, to a strategy meeting that night, much to the disapproval of his girlfriend. He also ran into Bob Offer (Nate Mooney), whom he told to streamline his research.
In North Africa, their unit was surprised that OSELA, a private military company came. However, before they could confiscate the laptop that was there, Odelle managed to put everything on her flash drive. They then headed out, and camped out that night at the Algerian border, as there were reports that the Ansar Dine were in the area. While Odelle’s captain informed Colonel Stephen Glen (Treat Williams) of Odelle’s intelligence, and while Odelle went into the bushes to relieve herself, they were bombed by OSELA, who then killed those who survived.
When she woke up the next morning, before getting knocked out and being locked inside a pit inside a house, she managed to send an email to Glen, telling him that she was still alive.
Back in New York, Joe told Peter that their whistleblower was a woman in Tampa, whom Peter later learned was the mistress of Alex Baker, the CEO of SOC. His boss and Baker then told him not to worry about it as charges had been dropped, but Peter found it strange that a Danny Gentry (Forrest Weber), a drone pilot, had rejected a deposit for the mortgage of his house by SOC.
Meanwhile, Glen informed Odelle’s husband that Odelle had died in an ambush, which was now being broadcasted all over the news. Because of this, Bob decided to hack into Odelle’s email, where he realized that everything was a cover up as he discovered her email. He then told Harrison who told him to tell him about the next day, and told Ruby about it as well.
The next morning, Peter discovered that Danny didn’t want to talk, but after he was threatened to keep quiet, he decided to tell Peter and Joe that he had been ordered to fly a drone plane in North Africa where he had dropped a missile on American soldiers, and was given paid leave when he threatened to talk.
Peter then set up an appointment for him with the Attorney General, but Danny was hit by a van while crossing the street.
Back in North Africa, Odelle befriended her guard, a boy named Aslam (Omar Ghazaoui), who brought her to Tessalit, where he would reunite with his father, as OSELA had tracked her down to his house.
At Tessalit, she convinced him to help her, as she would tell the Ansar Dine that he had helped her escape, and dressed up as a man, as only men could go on the pilgrimage to Timbuktu, where they would be hidden in the caravan going there. He then allowed her to try to call her house, but no one answered as her husband was holding a small memorial service for her. Aslam then took a picture of her, and sent it to Al Jazeera, which then went viral all over the world.
Harrison then tried to contact Bob, with no luck, and discovered that Ruby wasn’t a reporter at all.
Peter then told Joe that they needed to find Odelle as she knew the truth. Afterwards, Joe informed Baker, who told him that he would handle Peter if he became a problem for them.
