Andrew Garfield and Batkid Spend Time in Disneyland, the Happiest Place on Earth after the Oscars 2014 Cut Their Part in the Show
In the Oscars 2014 or the 86th Academy Awards held on March 2, 2014, Andrew Garfield and Miles Scott a.k.a. Batkid, were set to present an award in the prestigious event. However, due to a last minute change of plans, the duo was not able to do it. As a result, the Batkid’s family was disappointed. Thankfully, Andrew Garfield and Batkid spent time in Disneyland, the happiest place on earth after the Oscars 2014 cut their part in the show.
In a report published by Time, it says that Scott is suffering from leukemia. He became an instant superhero when the Make-A-Wish Foundation, along with some volunteers, transformed San Francisco, California into Gotham City for a day. The fun would not be complete without the villains that Batkid conquered. Unknown to most of the fanatics of the Academy Awards, the theme for 2014 is “Heroes,” so it was only fitting to pair Batkid with the Amazing Spider-Man, portrayed by Garfield.
Rumours started to circulate that Garfield ditched the kid. According to Page Six, he did not attend rehearsals for the Oscars 2014.
However, to give light to the said situation, a rep from the Academy clarified the issue to E! News. The rep said that Andrew Garfield and Batkid spent time in Disneyland, the happiest place on earth after the Oscars 2014 cut their part in the show.
“Due to the nature of a live show, hard decisions sometimes must be made which require the Academy to cut segments due to the logistics of production. Andrew Garfield understood that his segment had to be omitted, and he drove to Disneyland on Monday to spend time with 5-year-old Miles Scott (Batkid) and his family,” said the spokesperson of Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences in the E! News report.
Garfield’s publicist also issued a statement to Vanity Fair, indicating that the kid and the actor were equally upset about what happened.
Batkid’s mother Natalie Scott, described at International Business Times how it all happened so fast, that they did not even have a clue of what was going on.
“I don’t know if they ran out of time, or if there was something about the segment they didn’t like,” said Miles’ mother in the International Business Times report.
It turned out that all is well now because as mentioned earlier, Garfield took the child to Disneyland on Monday, March 3, 2014 after the disappointing incident. The Oscars 2014 producers arranged the said tour for Scott’s family and Garfield visited them to bring the kid a gift.
The representative added that Garfield did the right thing for Scott.
“Anyone saying otherwise is flat out lying,” added the rep in the E! News report.
It’s nice that “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” star Andrew Garfield and Batkid spent time in Disneyland, the happiest place on earth after the Oscars 2014 cut their part in the show. Who would have thought that two famous superheroes will hang out in Disneyland of all places, right? Maybe, they wanted to hang out with Mickey Mouse and Goofy for a change.
