Do ‘Androids Dream’ of Blade Runner 2? New Title Rumored for ‘Blade Runner’ Sequel
The “Blade Runner” sequel has recently been in the news a lot, but we did not know the title for the movie yet. Not any more, the “Blade Runner” sequel is reportedly going to be called “Android’s Dream.” Read on for more details.
BBC is suggesting that “Blade Runner 2” is called “Android’s Dream” based on domain names. In the past couple of days, the domain names bladerunnerandroidsdreammovie.com as well as androidsdream.com have been registered by a company used by Warner Bros, entertainment correspondent Lizo Mzimba is reporting.
For those familiar with Philip K. Dick’s book on which the original “Blade Runner” film was based, the name sounds rather uninspired and derivative, achieved simply by lifting the first nouns out of “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” Or perhaps it’s an homage of sorts by Villeneuve and co., a sort of message to fan that the new movie will be faithful to the source in terms of themes and tone.
Villeneuve certainly needs all the support he can get, with the production of the sequel being massively criticised by the internet for ruining the ending of “Blade Runner.” In a recent interview, the man himself confessed that “fans would walk into the theater with baseball bats” to get him if he ruins “Blade Runner.”
Villeneuve has called the script for “Android’s Dream” (if that is indeed the name for the thing) “fantastic” and “powerful.” It is being penned by Michael Green with original director Ridley Scott and original screenwriter Hampton Fancher. We know that Harrison Ford is returning to the movie, with a rumored Ryan Gosling supposedly playing the protagonist in this film.
“Android’s Dream/Blade Runner 2” is currently in pre-production and will be out as soon as Villeneuve finishes filming.
