Angelina Jolie Meets Pope Francis at the Vatican

So how can a person land himself a private meeting with a small audience inclusive of Pope Francis? If you’re Angelina Jolie, this wouldn’t be a problem! Read on for more details.

According to the Daily Beast, theHollywood star turned director gained a private audience at the Vatican for the screening of “Unbroken.” After the screening of Jolie’s second directorial project, the 39-year-old was able to shake the hand of Pope Francis. While the pope was unable to join the screening, Jolie and a couple of her children were able to meet the pope briefly after the movie was over.

Arriving in Rome, Italy a day before the private screening, there were already rumors that a meeting between Jolie and the Catholic Church leader would be meeting. At first, it was speculated that the 39-year-old’s husband, Brad Pitt, would be joining in on the meeting. Unfortunately, the actor/director was absent from the special event despite earlier reports.

After the pope spoke about homosexuality in 2013, the Guardian reported that the couple admired the Catholic Church leader. Because of this, meeting him in person would have been a great honor for them.

Jolie arrived in the Italian capital on Wednesday as she was accompanied by her brother James Haven, and two of her children, Zahara and Shiloh. According to Daily Mail, Jolie’s head of security had an earlier flight to Italy so he could do a security check ahead of her family’s arrival. Before the scheduled meeting with the pope, Jolie’s family joined a group of people that shopped from local souvenir shops.

Jolie, who also stands as the Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), was inside the Vatican for the private screening of her latest film, “Unbroken.” The film shares the story of Louis Zamperini, an American Olympian, and World War II hero. With his plane shot down over the Pacific, Zamperini struggles for survival on board his raft for almost a couple of months during the second World War. The film also focuses on Zamperini’s ordeal as a prison inmate of war camps.

“Unbroken” stars British actor Jack O’Connell as the lead role.
