Aspiring Sportscaster among Aurora Theater Shooting
Jessica Ghawi just escaped a deadly shooting at a Toronto shopping mall last month but this time around she was unlucky to be counted among the victims in Friday’s Aurora theater shooting. Professionally she’s known as Jessica Redfield and has recently received media credentials for the Colorado Avalanche.
She is described to be a smart, friendly and amazing person. She was a ball of fire and energy with quick wit and an infectious personality. On her Twitter, Ghawi said that she was going to the midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises.
One of her last Twitter posts stated that she never thought she had to coerce a guy into seeing the midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises with her. Also on Twitter, her boyfriend, professional hockey player Jay Meloff, said that 140 characters could never do her justice nor could all the words in this world. He added that he never wanted to fall asleep because it meant missing time with her. On a separate Twitter post, he said that every experience in life was amplified beyond his wildest dreams with Ghawi.
Her brother, Jordan Ghawi, wrote that his sister was attending the movie with a friend, who was injured in the shooting. He confirmed that Jessica was shot twice.
In June, Ghawi escaped a shooting at a Toronto shopping mall that left one dead and four injured. On her blog, she said she decided to leave the scene of the shooting just moments before it happened. She said she felt nauseous after the shooting and questioned whether this is the world we live in.
Denver Post hockey writer Adrian Dater wrote in a blog post that he saw Ghawi as a little sister. She was interning at a radio station and he frequently talked with her about career opportunities. He added that she recently moved to an apartment in Aurora and was excited to have a place of her own.
