‘Avatar’ Actor Sam Worthington Arrested in New York City for Punching a Photographer
“Avatar” actor Sam Worthington was arrested in New York City (NYC) on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014 at 5:30 p.m. for punching photographer Sheng Li/Li Shang. 37-year-old Li allegedly kicked Worthington’s girl (and rumoured wife), 26-year-old model Lara Bingle in the shins.
According to CNN, New York Police Department Detective (NYPD) Kellyann Ort confirmed Worthington’s arrest. The said altercation reportedly happened in NYC’s Greenwich Village. Ort also said that Li was held for arraignment and that he does not have press credentials.
Thankfully, no one was hurt enough to be hospitalized.
TMZ reported that both Worthington and Li were arrested for the scuffle. Li was charged with assault, harassment and reckless endangerment.
According to TMZ, some cops said that Worthington and Bingle were walking out of a bar in Greenwich Village when Li came out of nowhere and kicked Bingle for no reason. Of course, Worthington didn’t let it slide and retaliated in defense of her lady love.
After being charged with assault, 37-year-old Worthington was eventually released on bail. But, he was given a ticket and he must appear in court at a later date for what he did to the paparazzi.
On the other hand, Li is still in the custody of NYPD.
In a report from E! News Online, Worthington and Bingle were said to be bloody after the assault outside of Benny’s Burritos. The manager of the restaurant told E! News Online that the couple showed their injuries to the police.
Meanwhile, The Daily Mail says that the altercation between Worthington and Li happened at the Cubbyhole bar in West Village, NYC. Also, as the fight ensued, Worthington reportedly yelled “You kicked my wife” to Li.
But, Lara’s friend clarified to The Daily Mail that as far as she knows, Worthington and Bingle are not married.
However, there have been reports that the couple married in secret earlier in 2014. And, they have been seen wearing matching rings on their wedding fingers. In fact, E! News Online even has a snapshot of the two wearing the said bands. Click HERE to see the photo from E! News Online.
