Backstrom Recap: I Like To Watch
“Backstrom” Season 1 Episode 11 “I Like To Watch” aired last Thursday, Apr. 16, 2015 at 10:00 p.m. on FOX. In this episode, an investigation into a performance artist’s death became more complicated. It was after Gregory Valentine realized that one of the suspects was a friend of his from their time at Juvenile Hall. Read on to learn more about this episode.
The episode began in the boat. Gregory Valentine (Thomas Dekker) told his half-brother, Detective Lieutenant Everett Backstrom (Rainn Wilson) that if he wasn’t going to make his kite, then he had to give back the $200 he had given him for it. However, they were interrupted by the arrival of Officer Frank Moto (Page Kennedy). He took Backstrom to their crime scene at the Here and Now art festival.
There, they discovered that Timothy Fitch, one of the artists doing a performance art piece of exploding fruit by shooting them with a gun, had died of a gunshot wound, but the gun was nowhere to be found. Backstrom then discovered from Virginia Anderson (Haley Webb), the accountant fiancé of Fitch who had called it in, that Fitch had been drinking the night beforehand with his assistant, Moss Brady (Ray Santiago). He was nowhere to be found along with the bottles of alcohol and the cups that were used.
Later, Backstrom realized that a girl had been there as well as there were two bottles of Raspberry Blast Malt. They then questioned Lucy Harms (Ever Carradine), Fitch’s ex-girlfriend who was also performing at the festival. However, she told them that she was innocent.
They then interrogated Moss after he had been found in a slide set at a playground. However, he didn’t understand why he had passed out as he only had two beers, and as he could hold his liquor. He then told him that Fitch’s sister, Arianna Fitch (Tara Buck) had passed by as well. However, she didn’t murder her brother. He had agreed to help her take care of their paralyzed younger brother, who had gotten paralyzed in a car accident while Fitch was driving.
They then spoke to a local artist, Julian Gaynor (Ian Tracy). He had assaulted Fitch before after Fitch put on a show in which he destroyed his piece. However, after questioning him, they discovered that Fitch had paid Gaynor $30,000 in cash. It had been provided by his fiancé who came from a wealthy family.
While Backstrom was on lunch break, Valentine asked Backstrom to release Moss as he knew that he was innocent and because he had done him a big favor back when they were in Juvenile Hall together. As Backstrom promised to quickly eliminate Moss as a suspect, he told him that Valentine had said that he was a killer. He discovered that Moss had warned Valentine that he was going to get shanked, which caused Valentine to get the guy first, and pinned the blame on Moss. Moss then revealed that Fitch was alive. They were pulling a con on everyone but recanted after fainting as Moto showed him Fitch’s body at the morgue. However, after the toxicology report came in, it showed that Moss was telling the truth and discovered that Moss might have been drugged.
After Detective John Almond (Dennis Haysbert) and Detective Sergeant Nicole Gravely (Genevieve Angelson) discovered that Lucy might have been a battered girlfriend, Backstrom joined her performance to interrogate her. However, she wasn’t the murderer as Fitch had been her muse. After that, she came to him, and were about to sleep with each other with everyone watching until Moto, with orders from Gravely, pulled him out.
The next morning, Backstrom realized that it was Virginia that had drugged both Moss and Fitch and had murdered Fitch. She had realized that she was being used by Fitch for her money. She also realized this the day beforehand as Fitch had actually gone to see Lucy’s performance. She knew this as she had stalked him.
Later, at the boat, Backstrom apologized to Moss and showed Valentine the rocket kite that he had made for him. While Backstrom talked about the beauty of a kite, Moss and Valentine began to sleep with each other.
