Bad Judge Recap: The Cat’s Out of the Bag [WATCH VIDEO]
“Bad Judge” Season 1 Episode 8 “The Cat’s Out of the Bag” aired on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014, at 9:00 p.m. on NBC. Rebecca’s past came calling, and Gary helped her with coming to a realization about it. Find out what happened in the recap below.
Someone was trying to call Rebecca’s (Kate Walsh) phone, but she would always hit the ignore button. When Gary (Ryan Hansen) saw the name of the caller, he asked her why she was ignoring this caller, Keith. Apparently, the guy was Rebecca’s ex-husband. Yes, she was married 10 years ago, but she divorced him because he’s a douchebag and a user. Keith was her former band mate. Yes, she was in a band and played the drums. Keith was also Australian.
Gary told Rebecca that he was willing to listen to her if she needed to talk about Keith. He sensed she has some unresolved issues and might need a therapist for this. Later, Keith was actually in the courthouse to talk to Rebecca face to face, but she was not up for it. It was until Keith told her the reason why he’s been trying to get in touch with her: Eddie Money died. No, not the famous guitarist and rockstar, but their cat. They were going to have a memorial if she was interested in coming. Rebecca was gutted.
Later, Rebecca sifted through her Eddie Money memory box. She couldn’t take the cat after her divorce from Keith. She’d be a single mother (okay, cat mother) and won’t be able to take care of him. But as advised by Gary, her feelings for Keith shouldn’t take away her need to say goodbye to the cat. She needed to get closure with the cat, and maybe in the process, she could get closure from Keith.
And so, Rebecca went to the memorial with Judy. She found men who loves cats attractive and was looking to hook up at the funeral. At Keith’s and his band mate’s house, Rebecca discovered that literally nothing has changed. They still have the same curtains from when she left the house 10 years ago.
The memorial was beautiful, and Rebecca told Keith that she was glad she came. But then Keith mentioned something else to her. They needed someone to sub for their drummer for a really big gig. Could she maybe play with them? Rebecca hesitated at first, but with some more convincing, she agreed and they started rehearsals.
Rebecca: I'm having so much fun. I'm not even mad at you right now.
During the break from rehearsals, Rebecca went to pee. But who did she find hidden in the bathroom? Eddie Money! He wasn’t dead! This was just a ploy for Keith to get her to play in the band. Once again, she felt used, and once again, she quit. She also took the cat with her.
Later, however, she mentioned to Gary that she had to return the cat. It was diabetic, and being a working mother, it would be hard to care for Eddie Money. She was still mad at Keith, though, but Gary somehow made her see it differently.
Gary: Rebecca you're the one who grew, you're the one who wanted more and then you blamed Keith when he couldn't keep up.
That night, she decided to show up for the gig, albeit a bit late, and her friends watched as she played the drums with Keith and her former band.
Meanwhile, Tedward (Tone Bell) was getting cozy with the girlfriend of a criminal. When Chris Larson was sentenced, Tedward made his move, figuring that it would just be a casual hook-up. The girlfriend will have to go back to Larson when he’s released in six months. It was a winning situation for Tedward.
Rebecca: I can't believe you're taking a convict's girlfriend to dinner.
Tedward: I can't believe I didn't think of this sooner. From now on I'm a salmon and the courthouse is my sporting ground.
However, the girl he was dating was becoming too attached. She introduced him to his parents already! So when he learned that Larson’s case may be appealed and the convict could get out of jail early, he was pushing for this with the DA, and it actually happened. Larson was free!
After the sentencing reversal, Larson came up to Tedward to tell him that he knew he had been dating his girlfriend while he was in prison, to which Tedward started apologizing for, but Larson had something else in mind.
Larson: I got myself busted to get away from her. She's crazy!
