Read on for the spoilers about “Bates Motel” Season 2 Episode 5 “The Escape Artist” and find out more about the recap of last week’s episode “Bates Motel” Season 2 Episode 4 “Check-Out.”

“Bates Motel” Season 2 Episode 4 “Check-Out” Recap:

Last week’s episode is indeed a game changer not only in the TV version but the entire plot line of Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho.”

A furious Dylan (Max Thieriot) woke up from a deadly hangover and tried to ask Norman about his knowledge on his paternity. Then, he confronted his uncle/father, Caleb (Kenny Johnson) but told him that Dylan’s mother is lying. Emma (Olivia Cooke) has her share of scandal in this episode when she woke up inside the Bates Motel with an unidentified boy whom she tried to hide from. Back from last week’s teaser, she found an unconscious Dylan inside his truck. And no, he didn’t get into an accident but rather, a drinking binge after learning about the identity of his father.

Norma tried to confront Caleb (Kenny Johnson) once and for all and even, drove to his hotel. It seems that she is not ready after all.  Meanwhile, Norman is still under his mother’s every whim. He asked Norma to tell  him the truth about her secrets and promised that he will deal with the problem with his own hands. He told Cody about their problems and they decided to “scare” him.

The episode gave us a glimpse on what would Norman become. It reminded us of the Hitchcock’s original character that we used to know from the 1960 film. He went into another kind of episode- he mimics his mother’s personality as if it was his. Norman got hold of a knife and went to his uncle. Unfortunately, Caleb had the upper hand and left him unconscious.

“Bates Motel” Season 2 Episode 5 “The Escape Artist” Synopsis:

The teaser trailer released focuses on the theme of friendship and how the main characters deal with it. Who would have thought that the “us-against-the-world” duo of Norma and Norman Bates has a social life aside from their creepy, mother and son relationship?

Norma joined George (Michael Vartan) in an almost ruined double date with Christine (Rebecca Creskoff) and Peter (Martin Cummins). Then, she makes a sketchy negotiation with an unidentified man in order to deal with the bypass.

Despite his weirdness and lack of ability to socialize with a larger crowd, Norman seems to attract a lot of girls since the previous season. He previously made friends with Bradley, the Queen Bee (Nicola Peltz) and Miss Goody Two Shoes in Emily. Now, he sets his eyes on a mysterious, kick-ass girl named Cody whom he shared a dark secret with about his family.

In an interview with Zap2it, Max Thieriot shared that the rest of the season would focus on how he deals with the shocking daddy issue.

He learns the reason behind Norma’s indifference with her firstborn-that he was a mistake in the first place. In the last episode, a heated argument with Norma will lead to his temporary departure from the hotel.

“It’s tough for Dylan because it seems like every time he starts to hit his stride … everything starts crumbling down again.” said Thieriot in the Zap2it interview.

Guest stars include Michael O’Neill who will play Nick Ford and Kathleen Robertson who will portray Jodi Wilson.
