BBC One Commissions The Driver

BBC One has enlisted the three-part drama series, “The Driver,” which is created by BAFTA winner Danny Brocklehurst and Jim Poyser. The show will star David Morrisey, who is widely recognized for his role as the Governor on “The Walking Dead.” Read further to know more about “The Driver.”

The show’s premise centers on a taxi driver named Vince McKee (Morrisey), an ordinary man who, because of the frustrations of his job and the demands of his family, makes a life-altering decision with an outcome that bears grave consequences. He becomes involved with a gang of criminals, and even as he’d like to turn his life around, not everything goes according to plan.

The series will also star Claudie Blakely (“The Nightwatch”) as McKee’s wife and Sacha Parkinson (“Coronation Street) as the daughter. Supporting the main actors are Colm Meaney, Shaun Dingwal and Lee Ross. “The Driver” will also reunite Morrisey with Ian Hart, who worked with him in “One Summer.”

“I have always wanted to work with Dave Morrissey, one of the UK’s finest actors, and I’m delighted to be finally getting the chance. The entire cast is amazing and it is a privilege to have them on board,” said series creator Brocklehurst, as published in the BBC One press release. Brocklehurst calls “The Driver” a passion project. He describes it as a powerful thriller and a strong character-driven drama. There is, however, redemption when the series concludes.

In the same press release, Morrisey, who is also the show’s executive producer, expressed his excitement about working with the cast on this project. Filming for “The Driver” will begin this July in Manchester. The show is slated for airing on BBC One in late 2014.

“The Driver” is the most recently signed drama in BBC One’s long list of original programming slated for 2014. The channel has earned critical praise for “Happy Valley,” which aired from April to June 2014.

And that’s the news on “The Driver,” which will come to BBC One by the end of 2014. Check out the teaser released by the network below to give you an idea of the show. Follow Movie News Guide (MNG) for more updates on this.
