Behind the Mask: Top 10 Superhero Alter Egos
A superhero is not without its secret identity. In every form, from movies, TV shows, and comic books, it showed how integral it is for a superhero for to have a day job and live among civilians. Having a secret persona also allows for further story telling as it provides the necessary number of tricky situations with regards to the superhero making sure that no one discovers their real identity. This list excludes Superman, because his other identity, Clark Kent is his “mask.” Now on to the list.
- Green Lantern – Hal Jordan
Galaxy police by day, swaggering test pilot by night. Hal Jordan lived his life with a “You live only once” mantra after witnessing the death of his father in a plane crash. But this attitude is the one that helped him to fight his inner fear and egotism to become the chosen wielder of the Green Lantern ring.
- Mister Fantastic – Reed Richards
One of the smartest men in Marvel Universe is also the most elastic. What makes him different from other superheroes is that he relies on his brilliant mind instead of mutant abilities in battling evil. Making sure that his identity is a secret as he starts his own family, he continuously fights for Earth and its inhabitants.
- Iron Man – Tony Stark
It’s a bit difficult to pinpoint exactly what Tony Stark’s job is. He’s a brilliant weapons maker and also a billionaire playboy, both of which he’s very good at. His crazy behavior and huge ego makes it hard for people to believe that the Avenger’s member and the eccentric billionaire are one and the same.
- Black Panther – T’Challa
Royalty… that’s Black Panther’s alter ego. As the king of the fictional country of Wakanda, he still performs his kingly duties while protecting Earth at the same time.
- Wonder Woman – Diana Prince
One of the most known female superheroes in the DC universe is also of royal birth. As the princess of Amazon, she represents her people in world meetings at the same time battles those who would harm Earth.
- Spider-Man – Peter Parker
Friendly neighborhood spider and also a photographer. Peter Parker is a nerd who was in the bottom of the social ladder, but after being bitten by a radioactive arachnid, he inhabits several of its abilities and became a web-slinger.
- Ghost Rider – Johnny Blaze
A lot of superheroes started out with being bitten or exposed to something before they became heroes. Johnny Blaze sold his soul to the devil and continues to atone for his sins by helping others. Surely, no one will make the connection between him and his skull-in-flames look.
- The Incredible Hulk – Bruce Banner
Bruce Banner is your run-in-the-mill scientist. When he gets exposed to gamma radiation, he changed into the Incredible Hulk. The unusual thing about this is that his transformation is tied up with his emotions and keeping himself in check has always been a struggle for him.
- The Question – Vic Sage
His alter ego as television commentator is almost the same as his superhero persona, both of them ask questions. The difference is, the Question goes after those who do not answer it.
- Batman – Bruce Wayne
Bruce Wayne is Batman and Batman is Bruce Wayne. But both are different in their own manner. Bruce, a not-so eccentric billionaire, being so mild-mannered and philanthropic as compared to Batman’s vengeful brand of justice, will make anyone think that they’re not the same person.
