Ben Affleck Or Christian Bale: Who Is The Better Batman?
Ok I know there is a huge difference between both the portrayals and after everything that I’ve seen, both of them look good in their own way, but still this question always remains. Who looks better and why?
Christian Bale immortalized the character as the Dark Knight in Nolan’s Batman universe and his popularity went to such an extent that people all around the globe unanimously resented the fact that Ben Affleck was brought in to take Christian’s place in the newly launched DC Extended Universe. There were memes, petitions and what not against Ben’s casting and how he is the last person on Earth to be taking the role from Christian.
But things changed when everyone saw the first promos of Ben Affleck as the Batman. A rather beefed up Ben looked down while standing next to his batmobile. Many haters turned believers while some still stand by what they said earlier about Ben being a terrible choice. Talking in-depth about both the portrayals, Christian’s Batman’s first outing was an attempt by Christopher Nolan to reboot the Batman franchise and make it as realistic as possible.
Bale’s Batman had problems rooted more on a personal level; a common man while watching the movie could connect to the fact and accept that these are some of the problems anyone in Batman’s place could face. Ben’s Batman has been referenced more from the comic books. He is playing the role of a rather older Batman who has for a while not been one and is now compelled to put on the cape again.
“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is also being said to take place years after the events of “The Dark Knight Rises.” So it is a possibility that fans can look at the story from Batman’s perspective and then judge how Christian played the younger and middle aged version and how Ben will be playing more of the older version of the character.
The reason why I say older is because “Justice League” will reportedly show Batman approaching his 50’s. On the lighter side Cinema Blend reported a rather hilarious incident that took place between Christian and Ben. Both of them were at this costume store getting their respective kids Batman costume when Christian advised Ben that the latter should make sure he can use the restroom even when he is wearing the suit.
Huffington Post on their part reported a really crazy fan theory that has been circulating around. According to this theory, Christian will be returning as the Dark Knight and Ben is in fact playing the role of Deathstroke who is posing as the Batman. One supporting statement stated that the line Batman says to Superman about bleeding is very close to what the mercenary usually says.
Ultimately “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” will define how good Ben Affleck really is and whether he has done justice to the character or not. Going by the already impressed WB executives, he seems to have passed the test.
