‘Batman v. Superman’ Update: Ben Affleck Shares His Reason for Accepting the Batman Role

Ben Affleck who will be starring as the new Batman in Zack Snyder’s upcoming “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” has received some backlash from fans, with some going to such lengths as creating online petitions calling for the removal of Affleck. As far as why Affleck took on the iconic role, here’s why.

Comic Book reported that Affleck revealed to Sunday Times the reason why he took on the iconic role of Gotham’s Dark Knight.  which was “to get the exposure to a movie of this scale is an education.”

Moreover, the actor says that he shares one common trait with the dark knight, Rage.

“For me, anger is so deeply buried and contained that when it does kind of come out, it comes out in stronger bursts – I tend to be respectful, polite, get along, put up with, put up with, put up with … then, when it finally emerges, it’s not something I have a ton of control over I’m not gonna go into a Wolverine berserker rage, but I do have a, I do..” Affleck told Sunday Times in the Comic Book article.told Sunday Times in the Comic Book article.

Affleck has met negative reception from the franchise’s fans, but nonetheless, Director Zack Snyder believes that Affleck fits the role for the pic. “Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne,” remarked Snyder in a statement, as published on Variety.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is written by Chris Terrio, with Snyder directing the film. It will follow the story of both Batman and Superman, along with some other known DC characters — such as Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Aquaman — after the events of Man of Steel. Henry Cavill reprises his role as Superman, while Ben Affleck was chosen to portray Batman’s newest incarnation. Along Cavill and Affleck, Gal Gadot is cast to play Diana Prince, the Amazonian princess turned superhero, Wonder Woman.  Surprisingly, Jesse Eisenberg will play as Superman’s greatest rival, Lex Luthor. Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane will reprise their roles as Lois Lane, Perry White and Martha Kent respectively. Other actors included in the film are Ray Fisher as Victor Stone/Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth.

“Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” will open in theaters on March 25, 2016. That’s it for the latest scoop on “Batman v. Superman”, for more updates on the film, stay tuned here on Movie News Guide (MNG).
