FOX’s Upcoming Batman Prequel Gotham Starring Ben McKenzie as Commissioner James Gordon Will Be Aired Soon

Fans of the DC comics hero gone gaga over the news of of a new show that will shed light on another DC Comics character in the Batman franchise other than the caped crusader’ and his trusty sidekick.  FOX’s upcoming Batman prequel ‘Gotham’ starring Ben McKenzie  as Commissioner James Gordon will be aired soon.

Move over, Batman and Robin because Commissioner James Gordon is a new hero in Gotham City!  But who is Commissioner Gordon exactly? In an article by, FOX released the official synopsis and logo of the show on March 13, 2014.


“Everyone knows the name Commissioner Gordon. He is one of the crime world’s greatest foes, a man whose reputation is synonymous with law and order. But what is known of Gordon’s story and his rise from rookie detective to Police Commissioner? What did it take to navigate the multiple layers of corruption that secretly ruled Gotham City, the spawning ground of the world’s most iconic villains? And what circumstances created them – the larger-than-life personas who would become Catwoman, The Penguin, The Riddler, Two-Face and The Joker?

“Gotham” is an origin story of the great DC Comics super villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told. From executive producer/writer Bruno Heller (“The Mentalist,” “Rome”), “Gotham” follows one cop’s rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering on the edge of evil and chronicles the birth of one of the most popular super heroes of our time.”

Southland’s Ben McKenzie has been tapped to play Commissioner Gordon in the upcoming TV seires. Hollywood Reporter has the latest scoop on the other actors who will have to fill in the shoes of notable DC Comics franchise including a young Bruce Wayne and his butler/guardian Alfred Pennyworth, famed villains and a new love interest for the main star.

Other cast members are 14year-old David Mazouz (Touch) will play as the pre-teen Batman, Sean Pertwee (Elementary, Camelot) as Alfred Pennyworth, Robin Lord Taylor (The Walking Dead, Another Earth) as Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin, Zabryna Guevarra (Burn Notice) as Captain Essen, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, Jada Pinkett Smith as Fish Mooney, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle and Erin Richards (Breaking In, Being Human) as Barbara Kean, Gordon’s wife.

Though the upcoming series have been receiving raves from comic fans, John Casteele of is not quite happy with the risky move because in the first place, the future Batman is still in his preteen period. The show will pick up with the young Bruce Wayne coping with his parents’ murder.

It’s too early to tell if the Batman prequel would be successful or a flop but according to AV Club, the ‘Gotham is set to compete with ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, The Arrow and CW’s upcoming spin-off series The Flash for ratings.
