Beyonce and Jay Z Has Secret Unreleased Album and It’s Fela Kuti-Inspired
R & B singer and producer The-Dream has confirmed in an annotation on Genius.com that Beyonce and her husband Jay Z have worked on a completely different but unreleased album before Beyonce’s “4” back in 2011. This was apparently inspired by Fela Anikulapo Kuti, a musician, political activist and the pioneer of the so-called Afrobeat music. Read on to learn more details.
According to The-Dream, who submitted an annotation in Beyonce’s “End of Time” lyrics at Genius.com, which was also picked up by Radio.com, the artist apparently worked on a whole Fela Kuti-inspired album that did not make it to the airwaves. The-Dream, whose real name is Terius Youngdell Nash, wrote that this was way before Beyonce’s fourth studio album release and they did about twenty tracks for it.
“She said she wanted to do something that sounds like Fela. That’s why there’s so much of that sound in the ‘End of Time’,” noted The-Dream in the annotation published on Mar. 17, 2015.
Fela’s Afrobeat is a fusion of jazz, psychedelic rock, African chants and Ghana or Nigerian inspired rhythms. It features a big band with the drums, horns and West African guitars as the predominant instruments.
“There’s always multiple albums being made. Most of the time we’re just being creative, period. We’re talking about B, somebody who sings all day long and somebody who writes all day long. There’s probably a hundred records just sitting around,” The-Dream added.
It is not known, however, if Beyonce, Jay Z, or any other music studio is involved with a release of these shelved Fela Kuti-inspired songs, or if a release is ever in the books. But fans are already hoping that there will be a special edition of this vintage music from the artist someday.
The-Dream is credited for co-writing Beyonce’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” and other hits like “Baby” by Justin Bieber and “Umbrella” by Rihanna.
Meanwhile, another producer, Noel Fisher, who is otherwise known as Detail and who has worked with the power couple for Beyonce’s “Drunk in Love,” has confirmed that he’s working on a full-length album with them. This is targeted for release by the end of 2015.
Fisher confirmed this with Billboard back in February.
So, what do you think Beyonce fans? Is this a possible Christmas offering from the superstar, perhaps?
