‘Black Panther’ Movie Update: Does Black Director More Apt for it?
We all know that a solo movie is on cards for the DC Comics character named ‘Black Panther’ but it will take time as the makers want a perfect team for the same due to its single character base, though, the search has already been started for a suitable director. Till now, many names came in front and the latest one is Ryan Coogler who by saying that Black Panther should have a black director is making the news. Read On!
Coogler, who is now a day on top of the talk of the town for his sports drama film “Creed,” was the most recent choice of the studio though he has been dropped out of the film, but he suggests a black director to take charge of the T’Challa’s solo movie.
While speaking with ScreenRant, the talented Coogler said that to have better understanding of a culture one should always try to pick people from that culture only. It only means that if the movie is about black panther then a black director should take the charge and in the same, he would prefer to hire a female director to direct a movie based on a female superhero.
Coogler said, “I think that there is a potential for a greater truth when a filmmaker comes from a particular culture that they’re dealing with. That’s not to say that a filmmaker can’t work outside his or her cultural space. But I do believe that the opportunity for the film to have more nuance will come when you looking at filmmakers that bring a little bit of that from their personal experience.”
“Creed’”s helmer was the third person approached by the makers of “Black Panther” as before him names like Ava DuVernay of “Selma” fame and F. Gary Gray of “Straight Outta Compton” were under consideration. DuVernay and Gray, both said no to the offer due to genuine reasons, but Coogler’s reason behind saying no to the movie is not out till yet.
Well, it seems that the search will extend for some more time as no director has been finalized till yet but one thing is clear that who so ever will direct the first movie on the most famous black superhero of all time has to prepare a lot. The movie is one among the most awaited films which is slated for Feb. 16, 2018.
