Blake Shelton Pays Tribute To Late Brother; Calls Him A “Hero” On 25th Death Anniversary
He paid a touching tribute to his late brother, Richie Shelton. It was a touching and emotional moment for Blake Shelton as he remembered his older brother who had passed away 25 years ago.
Richie Shelton was just 24 when he died in 1990 due to a car crash. At the time of his older brother’s fatal accident, Blake was only 14 years old.
The coach of “The Voice” and the country star wrote on Twitter and shared that it was 25 years ago that he lost his older brother, Richie. Even after so many years, Blake still regards him as his hero. He wished others would have also known his big brother as well.
Miranda Lambert, Blake’s ex had made a single titled “Over You” that was supposedly inspired by Blake’s late brother. Lambert and Blake had jointly penned the ballad.
Incidentally, Lambert received the “Song of the Year” in 2012 CMA Award function for the song.
In the same award show, Blake had revealed backstage how both of them got inspiration to pen down the track while they were on a tour bus. They had turned on the television and found that “Backstory: Blake Shelton” was being aired. The show featured the singer’s father speaking about his late son Richie on GAC TV.
It was then that both of them started a discussion on Richie. Though Lambert had never even met his late brother, they both finished writing the hit song that same night.
It was he who had advised his ex to record the track, as he did not want to perform it but just to be proud of his creation. He just wished to stand back and smile while Lambert performed the track.
Blake had earlier shared details about his late brother’s death in one of the interviews that he gave on “60 Minutes”.
Blake still remembers how he had once tried to call Richie after a week of his death and then suddenly realized with great shock that his brother was not with them anymore.
