Previously on “Blue Bloods” (“Custody Battle” Season 4 Episode 20), Jamie (Will Estes) encouraged Eddie (Vanessa Ray) to write her father a letter. However, Eddie refused to do so because she does not have anything nice to say to him. They were assigned to transport an inmate to prison. The prison house was where Eddie’s father was serving his sentence. But a family is still a family. No matter how grave what her father did to her, he was still her father. Eventually, Eddie agreed to visit her father in prison, provided that Jamie accompanies her. He did.

The case for this episode was about a man named Christopher Collins. He was trying to fight for his visitation rights and was arrested because of misconduct. Jamie and Eddie were alarmed to hear a police officer yelling that Collins was dead. According to Cutter, the officer in charge, Collins asked for permission to use the bathroom. When his handcuffs were taken off, he attacked Cutter. The medical examiner concluded that Collins died due to strangulation. Here was the scene. Cutter defended himself to Collins attack, but he was unable to control himself, thus choking him to death. Officer Walsh, Cutter’s buddy, told the same story. Frank (Tom Selleck) saw this case as a self-defense, while Erin (Bridget Moynahan) saw it as homicide.

Erin met Walsh in a coffee shop to squeeze information from him, but to no avail. Frank then talked to Cutter’s former boss. It was unusual that the officer left a high-paying job in the suburbs to work in the city. Frank discovered that Cutter was involved in an assault before, and his victim sustained injuries.

Finally, the grand jury did not indict Cutter. He was back to work, but not under Frank’s tutelage.
