Bones Recap: The Murder in the Middle East

Bones” Season 10 Episode 19 “The Murder in the Middle East” aired on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 8:00 p.m. on FOX. In this episode, the team raced against time to help Dr. Camille “Cam” Saroyan (Tamara Taylor), FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) and Arastoo Vaziri (Pej Vahdat) solve the murder of the son of a high ranking official in the Iranian government, after Arastoo was seemingly kidnapped. Meanwhile, Dr. Temperance “Bones” Brennan (Emily Deschanel) became heartbroken after learning that Booth had gone back to gambling. Read on to learn more about this episode.

The episode began in Tehran, Iran, where a young man was pushed down the stairs to his death.

Back in Washington D.C., FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) managed to discreetly answer his bookie, who was calling him up to remind him of his debt as he had lost as his team had lost the night before. He then asked his wife, Dr. Temperance “Bones” Brennan (Emily Deschanel), something about a sports related injury so that he could place a better bet.

Meanwhile, while Dr. Camille “Cam” Saroyan (Tamara Taylor) was talking to Arastoo Vaziri (Pej Vahdat), who was currently in Iran, he was kidnapped. He then smartly kept the line on until it was discovered by his captors, so that he could give Cam and the others an idea of where he was being taken.

Arastoo was then brought to an old surgical laboratory where he was presented with some remains and was asked by Majid Namazi (Houshang Touzie), a high-ranking official in Parliament, to solve the murder of his son, Darius Namazi, in exchange for his freedom.

Back at the Jeffersonian, Booth managed to pull some strings with a friend at the CIA in order to get him and Cam into Iran. There, they met up with their guide, Hooshmand (George Georgiou), who gave them an audience with Majid. However, as Booth and Cam offered the services of the FBI and the Jeffersonian team in order to solve the murder, Majid agreed to allow them to help Arastoo out. They then connected a video link to the Jeffersonian, and briefed the team on their victim-25 year old Darius Namazi.

They discovered that he had been drunk, and had fallen down a staircase, where he was found four to five days later as if he had been eaten by scavengers. They were then shown pictures of the crime scene by Darius’ cousin, Officer Sanjar Zamani (Hirach Titizian). They then realized that someone had wiped the doorknob of Darius’ home office clean, as the killer had probably stolen something such as a laptop.

Meanwhile, Booth and Majid brought in a contractor whose loan Darius, who worked in a bank, had denied, but discovered that he hadn’t killed him, and gone to Darius’ house to bribe him only to hear him fight with a blonde foreign woman who then left the house.

While Angela Montenegro (Michaela Conlin) and Dr. Jack Hodgins (TJ Thyne) worked on printing the bones with a 3D printer, Bones got a little scare of her own as Jimmy Kosinksi (Matthew Charles Burns), Booth’s bookie, came by to collect the $30,000 debt of Booth’s, and threatened Bones and Christine (Sunnie Pelant). Later, FBI Special Agent James Aubrey (John Boyd) brought Jimmy in for questioning, but let him go after Jimmy threatened to use Booth’s gambling as leverage.

They then brought in Oskana Kozlov (Marina Shtelen), Darius’ lover, after identifying her thanks to the fact that her dogs, daschunds, who had to carry passports in Iran, had scavenged Darius’ body. However, they let her go after realizing that she wasn’t the killer. They then discovered that Darius was an underground activist, who was working hard for Iran to become democratic.

Because of this, Majid tried to shut down the investigation, but let it continue after discovering that Angela had managed to discover thanks to a security text alert, that Sanjar had tried to access Darius’ laptop. Later, they discovered that he had stolen the laptop in order to erase any trace of Darius’ illegal activities, and to erase his emails with Oskana.

Afterwards, they were told that they only had fifteen minutes left as someone had alerted the General about their illegal investigation. Bones and Arastoo then realized thanks to a strange fracture, that Darius hadn’t been killed in his house, as his ligament had been pulled post-mortem, and that the fractures were consistent with falling down a marble staircase, like the one found in the bank. Angela then discovered that Darius had been compiling evidence against Omid Turan (David F. Davoodian), his boss, as he had been embezzling from the bank they worked in.

Afterwards, Cam and Arastoo paid a visit to his sick brother, who was in remission. However, Booth’s homecoming wasn’t as sweet, as Bones told him that she knew that he was lying about not gambling, and asked him to leave the house for the meantime.
