‘Captain America 3’ Scribes to Discuss M.O.D.O.K. and Possibility of Sam Wilson Taking Over as Captain America
“Captain America 3” scribes hint about their work and what fans might expect to see for the third installment of the superhero action film “Captain America.” Read on for more details about this story.
In an interview with SFX, “Captain America 3” scribes, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, who also penned “Captain America: The First Avenger” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” screenplay, discuss what fans can expect for the third installment of the superhero action feature.
Following the Avengers NOW! Initiative, wherein radical changes were to be implemented within the superhero franchise, such as a female Thor, superior Iron Man and Wilson taking over as the new Captain America, the writers were asked if these recent changes might affect the upcoming project.
“I think there is a much greater need to shake things up in the comics because that’s a narrative that’s been going on for 60 or 70 years, so you’re going to wind up having to do things to it. Ours has only been off the ground for five or so. So it’s not quite time to start changing things up yet,” remarked Markus, as published on Comic Vine, hinting that it’s not yet time for Sam to star in a Captain America film.
“We tend to stay on the sidelines when it comes to the comics. We wait and see what we’ll steal from in three or four years from now!” added co-writer McFeely.
The interview then revealed earlier plans for “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” as the writers were asked about Batroc and Peggy Carter’s participation in the film. Markus explained that Hawkeye was included in the earlier drafts, but he wouldn’t have enough to do. Markus then started discussing the possibility of featuring the villain M.O.D.O.K.
For those who are not familiar with the comics, M.O.D.O.K., short for Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing, is the head of the scientific group A.I.M. (Advanced Idea Mechanics), an organization under HYDRA, dedicated to the acquisition of power and the overthrow of all governments by technological means.
“Captain America 3” is the third installment of the “Captain America” franchise that stars Chris Evans as the star-spangled titular Captain America and is part of MCU’s phase three project along with “Ant-Man,” “Doctor Strange” and “Guardians of the Galaxy 2”. “Captain America 3” will hit the theaters on May 6, 2016.
