Walt Disney Pictures’ action-packed, sci-fi film “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” hits theatres in April 2014. The movie is directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo. Its cast members include Chris Evans (Steve Rogers/Captain America), Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/The Falcon) and Haley Atwell (Peggy Carter). It will be shown on April 4, 2014 in the U.S.
After two years of Loki’s attempted Earth invasion, Steve Rogers a.k.a Captain America, along with Black Widow, picks up where “The Avengers” left off. This time, they will be joined by Sam Wilson a.k.a The Falcon, an epitome of a flying hero in a costume.
While adjusting to his new life in Washington D.C., a S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division) colleague was attacked. He then works with Black Widow. While Captain America is fighting to save the world, he is also fighting the professional assassins who were sent to kill him. Having discovered the villain behind this plot, Captain America and Black Widow tries to seek help from The Falcon. As the story unfolds, the three of them find themselves against the Winter Soldier.
Although the movie has not been shown yet, Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer shows that 99% wants to watch the second franchise of Captain America.
In an interview with MTV, Mackie emphasized that his character was only a sidekick in the Marvel’s new franchise.
“It’s interesting because a lot of people equate it to Batman and Robin, but the reality of it is it’s more of a working relationship, a respect relationship as opposed to a leader and follower,” said Mackie in the MTV report.
Meanwhile, Box Office has published some pros and cons about the movie. For the pros part, the Web site mentioned that it is a good idea to release the movie in April 2014, since there is less competition. Scarlett Johansson’s role can be a boost for women who are not really fans of action-packed films. Moreover, the trailer’s debut at the 2014 Super Bowl or Super Bowl XLVIII is a great help to promote the movie. As for the cons of the film, “super hero” fatigue from moviegoers was mentioned due to the number of super hero movies being shown lately such as “Thor: The Dark World” and “Iron Man 3.”
