Cate Blanchett On Being A Lesbian: ‘Not A Big Deal’

Cate Blanchett has been rocked by reports that she has had affairs with other women. This was after her character in “Carol,” where she portrayed to be a married and affluent woman who had an affair with a New York shop girl.

The Cannes Film Festival has been awed by Cate’s performance in the film directed by Todd Haynes. “Carol” has also received excellent reviews from both audiences and critics with her portraying. Scenes showing Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara making love in a motel fueled speculations that Cate might really be lesbian.


Cate Blanchett said that the published version of an interview she did with Variety suggested she has taken her personal experience of having women lovers into her portrayal of the title character in the movie. However, she was quick to clarify the interview she did with publication, denying allegations that she has had affairs with the same sex.

The Australian actress recalled a part of the interview wherein she was asked if she had been in a relationship with women. Cate Blanchet answered during that time, “’Yes, many times. If you mean I’ve had sexual relationships with them, the answer is No.” She said that her answer was not printed when the copy of the interview came out.

However, the actress said that it would not be a big deal given a new age and new generation, reported CBCNews. Two years ago, Cate Blanchett also took over the Cannes Film Festival after winning Palme d’Or, the festival’s top prize. This was after she did “La Vie d’Adele,” a film about lesbian relationship.

Meanwhile, the latest Cate Blanchett movie, “Carol” is on hard heels following the actress’ previous success. Director Todd Haynes has sensitively plotted the film wherein in he also took beautiful photos of two women falling in love after seeing each other.

At the end of the film, Cate’s title character had to choose between losing custody of her daughter and giving up her lover because of her moral character at stake. In a roomful of lawyers and her husband, she told everyone that she will not go against her nature.
