CBS Renews Scorpion, Madam Secretary and NCIS: New Orleans
Fans of three new CBS television shows will be happy to hear that the television network renewed “Madam Secretary,” “Scorpion” and the newest member to the “NCIS” family, “NCIS: New Orleans.” Read on to learn more about this story.
CBS announced that they would be renewing three new freshman television shows — “Madam Secretary,” “Scorpion” and “NCIS: New Orleans” — for a second season on Monday, Jan. 12, 2015. These early renewals are the first out of the four new television shows which debuted last fall, which leaves “Stalker” as the odd man out, as no word had been given yet regarding its renewal. This comes as the second network to openly announce the early renewals of several shows in its line-up, as The CW recently announced their network’s newly renewed television shows.
Contributing to the early decision to renew these shows are the current ranking and statistics of each new show, as well as the overwhelming talent and creativity for each show, both on and off screen.
“NCIS: New Orleans,” the newest member of the “NCIS” franchise, pulls in around “18.1 million viewers” and is ranked as this season’s “number one” new series and is the second best television drama on broadcast television.
This procedural follows along the vein of “NCIS,” in which the NCIS Agents of New Orleans solve cases that happen within New Orleans. Adding to its distinctiveness are the distinct sights, sounds, food and culture of New Orleans, which make the city vibrant and eclectic.
Meanwhile, Tea Leoni’s “Madam Secretary” is the second best new series for the season, and is Sunday’s most watched scripted broadcast. The political and family drama pulls in an average of 14.9 million viewers.
The political drama stars Leoni as the titular Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord who tries her best to balance her work and political life with her family life. Aside from Leoni, this drama boasts a talented cast, which include Broadway actress Patina Miller, actor Tim Daly and veteran actress Bebe Neuwirth.
Finally, the genius hacker procedural “Scorpion” comes in as the third best new series for the season and draws in an average of 14.5 million viewers.
This procedural with a twist features the “Scorpion” team, a team of geniuses headed by Walter O’ Brien (Elyes Gabel), who solve worldwide threats that only they can solve. This series is loosely based on the real-life Walter O’ Brien and his company. The show also gives an outsider’s look into how amazing and talented gifted people and geniuses are. Included in the roster of the cast is Katherine McPhee, an amazing singer and actress, who previously starred in the short-lived hit, “Smash,” on NBC.
Although these things are measured statistically, Nina Tassler, the Chairman of CBS Entertainment, shared that a contributing factor to the successes of these three shows is the fact that they are all creatively distinctive; have talented casts, such as Scott Bakula, Tim Daly, Bebe Neuwirth and Tea Leoni; and have strong showrunners.
