Chadwick Boseman to Star as ‘Black Panther’ in Upcoming Marvel Films

Last week, saw Marvel’s unveiling of its Phase 3 line-up, and now Marvel is going big with diversity with their female led “Captain Marvel” and “Black Panther,” whose titular character is of African descent. Chadwick Boseman ("42," "Get On Up") has signed up for the titular role in the "Black Panther" film, as well as, four other films with Marvel.  Read on for more details of this story.

According to Deadline, Boseman has signed up for five pics with Marvel and is set to star on his own solo feature pic as s the Wakandian King named T’challa. He was introduced onstage alongside "Avengers" stars Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. during the event. 


Aside from his stand-alone pic, Boseman is set to appear on the sequel “Captain America: Civil War,” which will be a clash between two sides of the superhero community, the Pro-Registration led by Stark and Anti-Registration led by Rogers. “Black Panther” will be Marvel’s first solo pic featuring an African-American lead, while its “Captain Marvel” will be its first female-led feature.

In "Black Panther," Boseman's character is the heir to the throne of Wakanda. It is an island rich in the element called vibranium, the same stuff Captain America’s shield is made of. Every Wakandan King, who is given a heart-shaped herb by the Black Panther spirit, is granted with fantastical abilities of Olympic-level physical attributes, like strength, speed, stamina and such, as well as heightening all of other senses. Equipped with his kingdom’s resources, T’challa sets out to punish the wicked.

Meanwhile, Captain Marvel will feature Carol Danvers, former Miss Marvel and current Captain Marvel in the comics. Marvel has been making big efforts to diversify its superhero lineup, not only in the comics but also in the movie universe.

"Captain Marvel" will kicked off in theaters on July 6, 2018, while "Black Panther" pounces on the big screens in Nov. 3, 2017.
