Charlie Sheen Admits His HIV-Positive Status On ‘Today’ Show: ‘Platoon’ Star Paid Millions To Keep His Illness As Secret?
“Platoon” star Charlie Sheen has revealed that he has HIV and has paid enough to keep it secret for about four years, in an interview on the NBC’s talk show “Today.” Read on to know the surprising details.
According to BBC News, Hollywood star Charlie Sheen, on the American talk show on November 17, admitted about his health status after the intense media rumors surfaced.
“I am here to admit that I am HIV positive,” Sheen said.
In addition, the former star of the sitcom “Two And A Half Men” disclosed that he paid millions in order to keep his illness as a secret. In fact, the actor added that he was diagnosed to have acquired HIV four years ago. He further added that he does not want to hide his illness anymore and that he desires to put an end to “this onslaught, this barrage of attacks and of sub-truths.”
The actor said that his close friends to whom he revealed his HIV status betrayed him by blackmailing and cheating on him. He further added that one of the prostitutes took a snap of his medication and blackmailed him.
When discussing his illness, he admitted that his habit of drinking and using drugs was the “bad decision” in his life. He further said that he is unaware of how he contracted the HIV virus. He also added that it was “impossible” that he would have passed the virus on to others.
A sequence of “cluster headaches and sweating” was the first sign he suffered due to the illness. After being hospitalized, he was quite shocked to know the test results that revealed his HIV positive status. He even disclosed that he thought he has a brain tumor and that the actual results were indeed indigestible.
According to Sheen’s doctor Robert Huizenga, the actor is “absolutely healthy” as his daily medication has suppressed & reduced the virus in his blood to an “undetectable level.” However, “we can’t say it’s zero,” said Huizenga, reported YAHOO! Celebrity.
Huizenga added that Sheen has to take the prescribed medication regularly and fears whether the actor might forget to take his medication if he is overly depressed, drinking, or using abusing substances.
Sheen admitted that he does not use abusive substances now, even though he drinks a bit sometimes. The actor feels that he could release himself from the media pressure and blackmails, after the show. Perhaps he might even stop the habit of drinking as he would be free from the media pressure now.
