Chicago PD Recap: An Honest Woman

Chicago PD “Chicago PD” Season 2 Episode 5 “An Honest Woman” aired last Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014, at 10:00 p.m. on NBC. In this episode, the entire Intelligence Unit worked together as they searched for Sergeant Hank Voight (Jason Beghe), who had gone missing. Meanwhile, Officers Kim Burgress (Marina Squerciati) and Sean Roman (Brian Geraghty) dealt with a teenaged girl who stole a police officer’s uniform and Kim’s badge. Read on to learn more about this episode.

At the beginning of the episode, Olive Morgan (Caroline Neff), who was pregnant with Justin’s (Josh Segarra) child, making the baby Sergeant Hank Voight’s (Jason Beghe) grandchild, paid him a visit. She told him that she wanted to get to know him more, as they were going to be family, and asked for some money. As Voight took some money out of the safe in the basement, he was attacked by two men, who knocked him unconscious and took the safe and Olive.

At the precinct, Nadia (Stella Maeve) informed Detective Erin Lindsey (Sophia Bush), that she could not get a hold of Voight, which was strange as he was never late or absent. After Erin took Detective Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) to Voight’s house, they discovered that the back door had been forced open and that there was blood on the basement floor. Because of this, they decided to bring in the Intelligence Unit to the house.

Based on their preliminary search, they realized that Voight had not been the only one who had been taken, as there was a tea mug beside Voight’s coffee mug. Officer Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger), who was in the basement with his partner Detective Alvin Olinksy (Elias Koteas), mentioned that he believed that the hole in the wall indicated that a safe had been installed there before. However, Alvin just snapped at Ruzek and told him to just do his job. Outside, Officer Kevin Atwater (Laroyce Hawkins) discovered that there were cameras at the front and back of the house.

Based on the footage, they were able to identify the girl as Olive Morgan, and they speculated that she could have something to do with it. They also discovered that when the two assailants escorted the girl out of the house, Voight was unconscious. As they did not know exactly what Voight had been up to, they decided to keep the investigation “in house.” Meanwhile, Alvin reassured Erin that Voight was a tough guy and that they would find him.

A little bit later, they were able to identify the smaller assailant as Ian Marks, a man whose family were all criminals. They were also able to get his location, as Nadia was able to get cell phone tower records of where Marks’ phone had been pinged when he called up his family in Denver.

At an abandoned house, Ian and his partner, to get Voight to give the combination of the safe, dragged Olive in, who was tied to a chair. They then wrapped a plastic bag over her head and threatened to let her die. However, at that moment, the Intelligence Unit barged into the room and rescued Voight and Olive. Olive had gone unconscious for a second, but Detective Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) managed to wake her up again quickly. Jay and Ruzek went outside to chase after Ian and his partner, who had fled, but they were too late, as the two had a headstart on them.

Inside, Erin told Voight that Olive needed to get to a hospital as she was pregnant, and Voight told her that they should continue to keep the investigation in house. After talking to Olive, he discovered that Olive had known that he had some “street cash” from Justin, his son, and that she had mentioned it to a friend of hers, Josie, whose friends were criminals. She then told Voight that Josie’s friend, Ian, showed up a week ago and threatened to cut out the baby if she did not get him and his friend into Voight’s house. She had believed them as Ian had left a shallow knife scar on her stomach.

As they got a hint on the getaway van that Ian had left in, Ruzek, Antonio and Kevin checked it out, while Voight and Alvin went to look for Josie.

Antonio, Ruzek and Kevin discovered that a man had been paid by Josie to torch the van. After torturing Josie’s boyfriend by breaking his fingers, Voight and Alvin discovered that the name of Ian’s partner was Lucas Gregory.

Back at the precinct, Erin checked up on Voight to see how he was holding up and reminded him that he could always “lean on his team.”

At the hospital, Olive apologized, as she never meant for anyone to get hurt, and told him that the “baby was supposed to be a good thing.” Voight then reassured her and told her that everything was going to be all right. He then received a phone call from Justin who informed him that he would be back in town the next day.

The next morning, Erin advised Nadia, who was instructed to pick up Justin at the airport, not to mention what happened. However, the team was in low spirits as they could not find anything at all on Lucas Gregory. However, as luck would have it, Ian Marks showed up at the precinct in order for him to get protection from Lucas. Voight then took Ian out for a ride, while the rest of the precinct turned a blind eye on it.

At an abandoned lot, Voight held Ian at gunpoint and offered him a deal — if he led them to Lucas, Voight would let him live. He agreed to this and informed Voight that Olive had not been involved in the entire operation, as Josie was the one who had “sold them the score.” Back at the precinct, he informed Jay and Erin that he and Lucas were supposed to split up then meet up that afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at Northerly Island, where a boat would be waiting for them to take them up to Ontario. They then decided to put a wire on Ian so that he could lure Lucas to them.

At the Chicago Boat Tours, the entire team took their positions. Everything was going smoothly, until Lucas realized that they were being watched. He then shot Ian in the head and took a girl hostage. However, Jay and Erin, whom he had not noticed, came up from behind and forced him to lower his gun. Voight then arrested him and dragged him off to his car. Voight bought Lucas to the abandoned lot, where he planned to kill Lucas, but instead, he beat him up and brought him back to the precinct.

At the lockers, Alvin apologized to Ruzek for snapping at him and revealed that he had been angry lately as he had just learned that his wife had been sleeping with a good friend of theirs. Ruzek advised him to fight to win his wife back and invited him out for some beer.

Before Erin left the precinct, she got surprised as District Attorney Steve Cott asked her if she wanted to head her own task force with the FBI. Cott then told her to just “think about it” and to let him know what her answer was when she was ready.

Back at home, Justin told his father that Olive was resting and that the baby, which was healthy, was a boy. Justin then thanked his father for protecting Olive and the baby, as Olive had told him what had happened. He then told his father that he was thinking of joining Signal Corps and going to college, as he needed a degree to get into Signal Corps. He also promised that from now on, he would keep his family, Olive and the baby, safe. Before Justin went up to bed, his father suggested that since Olive was going to move to the base, “make an honest woman out of her,” and handed him his mother’s engagement ring.

While everything was happening, a young teenager named Monica Adams visited the precinct to sell chocolates in order to raise funds for her basketball team. However, when Officer Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) went to her patrol car, her partner, Officer Sean Roman (Brian Geraghty), noticed that her badge had gone missing, as Monica had stolen it. Later on, they learned from Sergreant Trudy Platt (Amy Morton) that a teenage girl had been spotted impersonating a police officer in the 31st district and that she had stolen a police officer’s uniform.

As they searched for Monica, they learned that she frequently walked her little sister home from the playground every day. They found her at the playground, where she was taking down a boy who had previously bullied her little sister. After Kim and Sean confronted her, she told them that she had only done it to protect her little sister and gave Kim’s badge back to her. Kim then let her off with a stern warning never to impersonate a cop again.

Meanwhile, Antonio’s side job working in Sean’s private security firm got a little bit complicated, as Mr. Asher Roslyn, the man he was protecting, accused him of paying too much attention to his wife. Mrs. Roslyn tried to get Antonio’s attention, but he rejected all of her advances.
