‘Chicago PD’ Recap: ‘Natural Born Storyteller’

“Chicago PD” Season 3 Episode 2 “Natural Born Storyteller” aired last Wednesday, Oct.  7, 2015 at, 10:00 p.m. on NBC. In this episode, the Intelligence Unit raced against time to piece the entire truth together while solving the murder of a young boy, after realizing that the boy’s neighbors weren’t telling them the entire story. Meanwhile, Detective Alvin Olinsky (Elias Koteas) and Detective Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush) tried to fix their personal lives, while Officer Sean Roman (Brian Geraghty) let Officer Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) on a secret of his. Read on to learn more about the episode.

The episode opened with Detective Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush), who was now living with Sergeant Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) again, feeling better than ever, and submitting to Voight’s mandatory drug tests. Before leaving the office, she promised to finally talk with her mother, Bunny (Markie Post) about not seeing her anymore.

Meanwhile, Officer Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) started to become worried about her partner, Officer Sean Roman (Brian Geraghty). He was currently limping and lagging behind her as they chased a suspect down.

After finally catching him in a nearby backyard, Burgess noticed a trail of blood. It led her to a freezer inside that very same backyard, which contained a dead young boy, who was later identified as Jeremy Dolan (Nathan J. Carter). He had been reported missing around two days ago by his parents, Rochelle Dolan (Stephanie Cotton) and Richard Dolan (Rick Smith).

However, after canvassing the neighborhood, the Intelligence Unit discovered that the Dolan’s neighborhood was a really tight knit group, and didn’t seem willing to share any information at all.

They then went to look for a registered sex offender from Salt Lake City named Darren Woodhull (Richard Gallagher) who had not yet registered himself as one in Chicago, and who had a suspicious neck injury.

Later, they also discovered Jeremy’s blood in Darren’s car trunk. It had been in Kurt Hollister’s (John Sharian) shop, where it had been for the past week, just like Darren had said.

After realizing that Darren hadn’t hurt himself while on his boat, they entered his house, only to find Darren’s roommate, another registered sex offender named Nick Vosh (Michael Filipowich). He claimed that Darren had just been kidnapped by some men, one of whom they suspected was Richard Dolan.

Sure enough, they found Richard and his close friend Damien Boyd (Derek Phillips) beating Darren up.

However, as they were interrogating Damien, they discovered that his seven year old son, Connor Boyd (Nate Donley) had just been kidnapped.

They then learned that Darren could not have killed Jeremy as the laboratory results on Jeremy’s blood found in the car trunk revealed that the blood was two days old, and the car had been in Hollister’s shop for the past week.

After raiding Hollister’s shop, they then discovered the body of Ray Malone, a good friend of Damien’s and Richard’s inside a shed.

It turned out that Hollister was looking for revenge against Malone, Damien and Dolan. Dolan and Malone had accidentally killed Hollister’s son eighteen years ago while playing with a gun and had hid the body under Malone’s house. However, Damien hadn’t been with them that night as he had been studying, but had hid the gun for them.

Burgess and Roman, who were on patrol, managed to begin chasing Hollister down before the rest of the Unit arrived.

Detective Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda), who had been the most affected by the case, managed to get Hollister to release Connor, but wasn’t able to get him to stand down. He decided to commit suicide by trying to shoot Connor so that the police would shoot at him.

Later, as Burgess had confronted Roman about his slowness and the needle that she had found in his backpack, Roman revealed to her that he had been donating blood to a child dying of leukemia, as his blood was a perfect match for the child’s.

Meanwhile, Detective Alvin Olinsky (Elias Koteas) managed to reconcile things a little bit with his newfound daughter, Michelle Sovana (Madison McLaughlin).

However, things didn’t go so well with Lindsay and her mother, as Bunny, angered that Lindsay was once again pushing her away again, decided to lodge a formal complaint against Voight by presenting the department with evidence that Voight had provided false testimony in a case in 2001.

Are you glad that Lindsay is back? Do you think that Bunny will get away with trying to bring Voight down? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
