Chris Brown Creates New Track, ‘Counterfeit’ With Rihanna But Why Is It ‘Problematic’?
Chris Brown released his track “Before the Party” this Friday, leading to “Royalty”, his new album.
However, what surprised many is that one of the tracks in the album titled “Counterfeit” also features singer and ex, Rihanna. Brown was charged of assaulting her physically in 2009.
Of course, he has apologized publicly, had been sent to probation for five years and has undergone a visit to anger management rehab.
Brown had been detected with post-traumatic stress disorder and bipolar disorder after that notorious attack was made. Apparently, his violence and attitude has not changed even after that incident.
In 2014, he had to spend time in prison, as he had assaulted a stranger in 2013, right outside a hotel. It has also been alleged that the singer had a noisy argument with musicians Frank Ocean and Drake.
Many say that Chris Brown’s treatment and behaviour towards females has not altered at all. He had been widely criticized in 2012 for a tattoo done on his neck which looked like that of a battered woman, (in all likelihood of Rihanna).
The lyrics of many of his tracks are regarded as misogynistic by some. He is also going through a tumultuous relationship at present. Moreover, there is a fierce custody battle for Royalty, her daughter with Nia Guzman.
Rihanna has come a long way since 2009 as she now represents the contemporary woman who is powerful, strong, and is proud of her sexuality, as well as, career.
As far as Chris Brown is concerned, it is reported that he and Rihanna have reunited this time for work. The duo had confirmed their short association again in 2013.
What may be unsettling for many people is that this pair are getting back together once again just for publicity. This is the fourth time, that both of them are collaborating for “Counterfeit”.
Chris Brown is most likely to benefit from this collaboration, as there is bound to be lot of extra attention during his album release.
