Christina Chong Joins the Cast of Star Wars Episode VII

The up and coming British actress, Christina Chong, has been cast in J.J. Abrams’ film “Star Wars VII,” the seventh installment to the critically acclaimed movie franchise “Star Wars” by George Lucas. Read further to learn more about the details.

According to Variety, Chong is said to play the part of a yet unspecified role in the much-awaited film. Chong, who has lately appeared in the hit action-drama series” 24: Live Another Day,” has also made appearances in TV shows such as “Black Mirror,” “Lines of Duty,” “Monroe” and “Doctor Who.” She has also been casted to star in Sergio Mimica-Gezzan’s digital feature project, “Halo: Nightfall,” a live-action adaptation of the top-selling video game franchise, Halo. Moreover, the actress is set to play as the female lead, Macer, though character details are still unknown.

Set approximately 30 years after the events of “Return of the Jedi,” the plot revolves around a trio of new young leads, along with the characters from the previous installments. Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford reprise their roles from the classic trilogy as Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo respectively. Joining them are John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Gwendoline Christie and Lupita Nyong’o.

Production has stopped as it is currently on a two-week hiatus to accommodate Ford’s recovery from a broken leg sustained on set. Ford’s son, Ben, released the details of his father’s injury, saying that his ankle will likely need a plate and screws and that filming could be slightly modified as the crew needs to shoot Ford from the waist up until he is fully recovered.

For now, Abrams, the “Star Trek” film maker, has been shooting at Pinewood Studios in London and the deserts of Abu Dhabi in May 2014. Despite the setback, the film is still on track for its release date.

Earlier this month, Disney has added two more actors to the said project, Britain’s Pip Andersen and American Crystal Clarke, after extensive open auditions held in the U.S. and UK last year.

“Star Wars Episode VII” remains on course for a December 2015 release date. For more updates about the seventh “Star Wars” franchise, follow Movie News Guide (MNG).
