Seattle SuperSonics picked the 30-year-old Kaun as the final draft in the Sonic’s history before the settlement of the franchise to Oklahoma City. He is known for signing a three-year contract with the Russian team CSKA Moscow in 2008 worth €2,700,000. He then re-signed his contract with CSKA to stay for three additional seasons with the team.

It is said that his role is not defined because of a crowded frontcourt consisting of Kevin Love, Anderson Varejao, Timofey Mozgov and Tristan Thompson. The highly experienced Kaun is known for providing much-needed depth, which sometimes turns in a problem as the team has an experience of witnessing significant injuries throughout the regular season and the playoffs. Kaun is said to be a senior member of the Jayhawks National Championship.
