Fans of the insanely popular “Super Smash Bros. 4” already know that spiky-haired Cloud Strife is coming to the acclaimed fighting game soon, but it seems that a longer wait will be needed if they want to own their very own Cloud Strife Amiibo.

Amiibo, as Nintendo calls them, are items that could appear as portable as a trading card or as elaborate as a figurine. Anyway, one of the ultimate purposes of these things besides having a memento worthy of video-game bragging rights is that they could interact with your game, perhaps to unlock things or give you extra stuff. Recently,

Recently, iDigital Times reported that Cloud Strife, the beloved character from “Final Fantasy VII,” will be getting his own Amiibo, together with other video game favorites Corrin from turn-based strategy classic, “Fire Emblem” and Bayonetta.

So what does an Amiibo do, exactly? Well, Nintendo answers that question for us: they reveal that it can “interact with your game” to enable the user to unlock new characters or adventures, get special bonuses and items, and even level up some characters and customize them. What’s more, one Amiibo can interact with multiple games across (current-gen) platforms, particularly the Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS.

It seems that this is a good move for Nintendo, as Tech Times reports that Nintendo sold already 11 million Amiibo figures to date, and that’s just in the United States.

While the trio of Cloud, Corrin, and Bayonetta will surely tease fans on a wait of until a yet undetermined point next year, figures indicate that Nintendo wouldn’t have any difficulty breaking success even until then.

As mentioned, the figures / statues will be available sometime 2016, but in the meantime fans can rely on enjoying “Super Smash Bros. 4” to ease up on the waiting blues.
