According to Screen Rant, Disney has picked up the work of the Merlin saga adaptation only lately. Before, it was Warner Bros. that was working on the adaptation. As soon as Disney got the rights, John Zinman and Patrick Masset were replaced by Boyens.

Boyens has so far worked on famous movies like “The Lord Of The Rings”, “The Hobbit” trilogies, “King Kong and The Lovely Bones” along with Jackson and Walsh before. She would now work along with producer Gil Netter for the Merlin saga adaptation.

According to DeadLine, Boyens travelled from New Zealand to meet Disney’s Sean Bailey, and Merlin just appealed to her. Disney is happy to have Boyens with them as she has expertise of period fantasy world.

According to Screen Rant, it cannot be made out yet whether Disney’s adaptation of the Merlin saga would be based on the “The Lost years” story or would follow the other later books in the series. “The Lost Years” features Merlin who is young and suffers from loss of memory. He has no clue about his name and home and is required to find his identity and also use his powers.

Agreed, there is no dearth of material in the 12 novels, and a fantasy film can be created anyhow. Merlin’s fans, and regular and casual film watchers would love the adaptation of the Merlin saga whichever book is followed.

There have been several movies and television series that have been based on the story of Merlin. So, the Disney’s the Merlin saga adaptation surely would have to compete with them. But fans can guarantee that as Boyens is screen writing, the film is going to be different and much more interesting.
