Read on to learn more about this episode.

The episode began with Senior Nurse Jesse Sallander (Luis Guzman) teaching his residents a lesson in humility by having them clean up for the shift that came just right before them.

As soon as Dr. Leanne Rorish (Marcia Gay Harden) arrived, they sprang into action.

Dr. Mario Savetti (Benjamin Hollingsworth) and Dr. Christa Lorenson (Bonnie Somerville) shadowed  Dr. Neal Hudson (Raza Jaffrey) as they tended to a female name Laura Halloran (Dana Davis), whose artery in the head they had to tie up. Dr. Angus Leighton (Harry Ford) and Dr. Malaya Pineda (Melanie Chandra) shadowed Rorish, who, with the help of Neal, performed open chest surgery in order to stop the internal bleeding that was happening. Malaya also had an opportunity to revive their patient’s, Jake Willis’ (Regan Burns) heart by massaging it.

Later, Laura was stabilized, but Neal refused to discharge her as he couldn’t pinpoint which of her organs wasn’t receiving enough blood. After talking to Rorish and to Laura, Christa and Neal realized that her one remaining ovary had gotten twisted, and that they had only three hours left to save it. However, as there were more incoming cases, and as no operating room was available, Laura’s case had to wait. However, Christa, throughout her shift, tried her best to plead to Rorish and to Neal to do something, especially as Neal had done a surgical internship before.

Throughout the entire episode, Malaya, Angus, and Christa took turns it helping out Ruth (K Callan). They had given her some laxatives so that she could release all of the coins that she had swallowed to get out of the nursing home.

Mario’s next case with Rorish was with a well-known hockey player named Brian Wellborn (TJ Linnard), whom they later realized was having seizures. However, as Brian and his team doctor didn’t want to accept this, Brian angrily pushed Mario out, causing Rorish to tell him to go outside for a moment. Jesse told him that Brian’s team doctor was also kicked out, and reminded him that he needed to learn how to be more patient and kind around his patients.

Later, he broke the news to Brian that he couldn’t play anymore as the next concussion he got could result in his death, and comforted him by telling him that he could do anything that he wanted to do.

Rorish’s next case with Christa was with an almost blind teenager who had gone climbing with his father, whose nose was continuously bleeding. With some quick thinking, Rorish managed to stop the bleeding by using two urinary catheters to act as a stopper, which worked.

As soon as an operating room opened, due to Christa’s persistence, Rorish and Neal agreed to have Neal perform the surgery on Laura.

They managed to get the blood flowing to the ovary, but ran into complications as she started bleeding, which Christa stopped using the same technique that Rorish had just used.

Meanwhile, Angus hunch about another patient, Stan Rocksickler (Charles Carpenter) turned out to be right as he suddenly began to experience an aortic dissection while having his spine scanned. Later, Rorish told them to always rely on their instinct.

Later, they discovered that one of their first patients for the evening, Jake Willis, had survived, causing his wife and stepdaughter to be grateful towards them.

It was also learned that Rorish had lost her entire family in a really bad car crash, and later, she and Christa bonded over the fact that they were in the same boat, so to speak, regardless of her seniority over her in the emergency room.
