Daredevil Recap: Daredevil

“Daredevil” Season 1 Episode 13 “Daredevil” aired on Friday, April 13, 2015 at 12:01 a.m. on Netflix.  In this episode, Matthew “Matt” Murdock (Charlie Cox), Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) and Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) raced against time in order to finally put Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) behind bars. However, their victory was short live, leading the vigilanted and Fisk to finally confront each other, and from that battle emerged the new hero of Hell’s Kitchen.  Read on to learn more about this episode.

The episode opened with the funeral of Ben Urich (Vondie Curtis-Hall) which Matthew “Matt” Murdock (Charlie Cox) and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) attended. Karen then introduced herself to Ben’s widow, and apologized for getting him involved in everything. However, his wife told him not to worry about it, as he had died doing what  he loved doing-being a reporter. However, Karen was upset at the fact that Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) wasn’t there as he said that he was doing something important, and that Ellison (Geoffrey Cantor), whom she and Ben suspected was in Wilson Fisk’s (Vincent D’Onofrio) pocket, was there.

Back at the office, Matt reassured her that everything would be alright.

Meanwhile, Wilson confronted Leland Owlsley (Bob Gunton) after realizing that there was something off with his financials, and killed him by throwing him into an elevator shaft after discovering that he and Madame Gao (Wai Ching Ho) had poisoned Vanessa Marianna (Ayelet Zurer) at the benefit so that he would stop being distracted by her, and that Leland had planned to disappear with half of his money and assets. Afterwards, he instructed his men to look for Detective Hoffman (Daryl Edwards), whom Leland had stashed somewhere in the city as “insurance” against Fisk.

Foggy then went to Matt who was busy training at Fogwell’s Gym. There, Foggy told him that Marci Stahl (Amy Rutberg) was helping them out by photocopying any documents pertaining to Fisk, who was their client, and Leland. They then realized that instead of going back to the way they were before, that they would have to move forward together.

While  paying a visit to Sergeant Brett Mahoney (Royce Johnson), Matt heard that the cops in Fisk’s pay were looking for Hoffman, with orders to kill him and his friends. Matt then managed to stop them from shooting him, and told him to turn himself in to Brett and to hire Matt and Nelson to represent him.

He then gave his testimony, after which the FBI began arresting those in Fisk’s pay- cops, a senator, the senior partners at Landman and Zack, a woman and a man who worked at The Bulletin, and others. Before the FBI came to arrest Fisk, Fisk made Vanessa promise him something, and gave her an engagement ring.

However, their victory was short lived as Fisk’s transport was hit by some unknown men in Fisk’s pay. Foggy, before leaving with Karen to  Matt’s place, told Matt to go and “be a hero”, and made him promise not to die on him.

Matt then went to Melvin Potter (Matt Gerald), who gave him his first costume- a red and black costume that would help protect him, and would help in giving more effective punches.

Meanwhile, Fisk, who was currently being transported in a department store van to where Vanessa was waiting by a waiting helicopter, told her to leave the city if he wasn’t with her within twenty minutes.

Matt then stuck one of his billy clubs into the windshield, causing the truck to topple over. He and Fisk then fought, with Fisk initially throwing him to the ground. However, Matt got rejuvenated after Fisk said that he wanted to make the city a better place, and used his strength against him. Matt, angry at Fisk laughing at him, then knocked him out, and was confronted by Brett, who cuffed Fisk and asked Matt what he wanted to be called.

Vanessa, after putting on the ring, left the city.

The next day, while they finally put up the sign “Nelson and Murdock, Attorneys at Law”, Foggy commented that the horns on the costume of the newly dubbed hero was too much. Karen then commented that the name “Daredevil” does grow on you. Matt and Karen then went back inside the office while Foggy went off to help Marci find a new job.

Meanwhile, Fisk, in a white suit, entered his cell, and stared at the blank wall; while Matt, as Daredevil, went on patrol in his new costume, ready to protect his city.
