It was after being approached by a wealthy and mysterious new client represented by Wesley (Toby Leonard Moore). However, Matt quickly realized that there was more to this case than met the eye. Meanwhile, Ben Urich (Vondie Curtis-Hall) struggled to make ends meet without sacrificing his principles. He was approached by Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), who refused to be silenced by her former employers. At the end of the episode, the new player on the scene of Hell’s Kitchen’s underworld was revealed. Read on to learn more about this episode.
The episode began in a bowling alley, where a man expertly fought of Mr. Prohaszka’s (Peter Claymore) bodyguards and bashed his skull in with a bowling ball. Afterwards, he quietly surrendered to the police after placing the gun that he had bought from Turk Barrett (Rob Morgan) on the underside of a nearby pinball machine.
The next morning, Matthew “Matt” Murdock (Charlie Cox) was invited out for coffee by Father Lantom (Peter McRobbie). He had been sitting on a bench outside the church, but politely declined.
Meanwhile, Ben Urich (Vondie Curtis-Hall) met up with a former mobster friend of his. He was also one of his sources, who refused to give him the name of a dangerous new player that had come upon the scene in Hell’s Kitchen’s underworld.
At work, they were approached by Wesley (Toby Leonard Moore), who represented Confederate Global Investments. The company wanted to put them on retainer and offered them a generous amount of money. However, Matt wasn’t convinced that they should take him up on the offer as there was something off. It was especially as he had known about what had happened to Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll). To appease them, Wesley handed them one of their most recent cases.
Before going to the station to meet their client, Matt followed Wesley and after honing in on his watch and the car that he drove away in, went to the station, where Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) had finished interviewing John Healey (Alex Morf), and had decided not to take the case. However, much to his astonishment, Matt, who had arrived late, decided to take the case.
It turned out that Healey had been the one who had killed Mr. Prohaszka. Instead of waiting for a plea from the District Attorney’s office, Healey wanted to go straight to trial.
Back at the office, Matt and Foggy split the opening arguments and closing arguments with each other and decided to let Karen find out more about Confederate Global. However, Karen had taken a long lunch as she had received a letter from Union Allied Construction. They offered her a large amount of money for her silence, which caused her to be conflicted. She then talked to Danny Fisher’s widow, who told her to let it go.
Meanwhile, Urich, much to his annoyance, agreed to do a puff piece on the upcoming subway line instead of following up on the story about the new player in the Kitchen’s underworld. He managed to get an extension for his wife to stay in a private hospital room when he came to visit her.
Later, Karen paid him a visit as she decided to tell him the truth about what had happened at Union Allied.
The next day, at court, during Foggy’s opening remarks, Matt noticed that one of the jurors was scared, due to her heartbeat. He then beat up the muscle that was blackmailing her, in order to ensure that that juror would excuse herself from the jury. Matt and Foggy also learned that Wesley’s check had come through, even though Global was a subsidiary of many other companies.
The matter of that particular juror worried Leland Owlsley (Bob Gunton). He claimed that he couldn’t move on Prohaszka’s holdings, but Wesley told him to proceed as planned.
The next day, Matt gave his closing remarks after listening to the jury’s heartbeats, in which he argued that there was reasonable doubt since the witness only saw a struggle. This caused the verdict to be inconclusive- a hung jury, which Matt correctly guessed, and he also correctly guessed that there wouldn’t be a retrial.
Afterwards, Matt, as the masked vigilante, fought Healey and tortured the name of his employer out of him- Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio). Afterwards, Healey, who was scared as he had revealed Fisk’s name, impaled his forehead on a protruding piece of metal nearby.
While this happened, Wilson Fisk met Vanessa Marianna (Ayelet Zurer) at an art gallery which she curated, and the two bonded over a particular painting.
