Deadpool 2 Spoilers: Will Morena Baccharin’s Vanessa Become the Mutant Copycat?

Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool received the approval of both viewers and critics when it was released on Valentine’s Day. However, it failed to introduce a new female superhero to the big screen- Copycat.

In the movie, Wade Wilson’s girlfriend, Vanessa (Morena Baccharin), who until the credits rolled, seems pretty normal. But, in comic books, she also has superpowers of her own.

Comic Book’s Power Couple

Just like in the movie, Vanessa Geraldine Carlysle or Copycat as she is known in the comics, was a stripper before she met and fell in love with the mercenary, Wade Wilson. But, unlike the version of the character on the big screen, comics universe’s Vanessa has mutant powers.

She is a shape-shifter, hence the name Copycat. And, after breaking up with Deadpool, she eventually became a mercenary. At some point, she even copied another mercenary, Domino, to spy on Cable, according to Marvel.com.

Will Vanessa Become Copycat?

In Deadpool, there was no hint that Vanessa has mutant powers. However, it is possible for Wade Wilson’s girlfriend to be Copycat. Here is what scriptwriters, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, have to say:

“So hopefully, we’ll see what happens if we’re afforded the opportunity to move forward on this world,” they were quoted by Cinema Blend. “It’s something that would probably be worth exploring at some point.”

They further explained that the reason they did not included it in the first film was because they were introducing a new hero and a new world. They did consider making Vanessa a mutant. However, they did not want to “muddy the waters” by also making Vanessa a mutant.

But, now that Deadpool 2 is officially a go, the film might introduce Vanessa’s mutant power. Although, this might take a backseat with the introduction of both Cable and Domino in the sequel.

In other news, the upcoming superhero film just found a new director. David Leitch of John Wick will replace Tim Miller as the man-in-charge in the Ryan Reynolds-starrer.
