‘Descendants’ Sequel: ‘More Characters, More Stories’ to Tell, Teases Director

“Descendants” opened with a bang, as the movie premiered with a whopping 6.6 million viewers on Disney Channel. Due to the record-breaking figures that the movie has reached during its premiere on TV, many fans are already wondering if a sequel is in place. Director Kenny Ortega hinted several details about a possible sequel. Read on to learn more about this scoop.

Disney Channel released yet another successful movie in its network following the record-breaking success of “High School Musical” and “Teen Beach.” “The Descendants” follows the story of four children born from Disney villains, who choose to side with the good instead of becoming the next generation villains.

The movie has received 6.6 million viewers on its premiere on Friday, July 31 on Disney, Variety reported. “Descendants” was immediately hailed as this year’s most-watched cable TV movie, after surpassing figures from the network’s “Teen Beach Movie” sequel, which was released in June.

While a sequel to the hit Disney movie is already being talked about by fans and viewers alike, director Kenny Ortega revealed that a sequel to the fantasy tale is definitely possible.

“I think – were you to ask the cast and the crew – they’d agree that we’d all love to come back… there are so many characters from Disney animated films that we could draw upon, pull in. There are so many more stories we could tell,” Ortega told Huffington Post.

Meanwhile, the cast of “The Descendants” also revealed their thoughts on plot stories if a sequel to the movie will be set in place. Dove Cameron, who plays Maleficent’s daughter Mal, admitted to TV Line that she already has a couple of ideas should a sequel happen in the near future.

“I have it all laid out. But we know as much as anyone else, honestly,” she said.

Ortega also hinted that “Descendants 2” may also follow the story of Mal, as the outlet noted that Mal has not yet seemingly let go of her evil ways because the movie closed in with Mal’s green eyes.
