Director Elizabeth Banks Shares ‘Pitch Perfect 2’ Plot and Cameo Updates
A book doesn’t have to be the main basis for creators to make a sequel to their film. Sometimes, it’s just about expanding a character’s story. First time feature film director Elizabeth Banks shares some awesome updates about the upcoming musical sequel “Pitch Perfect 2.” Read on for further details.
In 2012, we were introduced with a revolutionized version of the glee club that offered an innovation to the musical style we all refer to as the a cappella. “Pitch Perfect” showcased that there is more to singing than just blending. Now, things are changing and are moving forward in the aca-wonder world as Beca (Anna Kendrick) and the rest of the Barden Bellas move on with their rhythmic journey in “Pitch Perfect 2,” with previous actress and producer Elizabeth Banks sharing to Yahoo! what’s to come in the new installment.
First things first, it was pretty clear that “Pitch Perfect” is a good enough stand alone movie that didn’t need a sequel. It was all presented properly and it hit a good $113 million in the international box office. So, why create a sequel for it? The answer is fervently simple: expansion and exposure. It appeared as though the movie was beloved by many and it seemed probable enough for the creators to give more music and character development for this second film.
“The only reason ever to make a sequel is to spend more time with the characters that people love, to tell more of their story. And I love the Barden Bellas,” explains Banks positively to Yahoo!.
For those of us who’ve seen the movie, we all understood that Beca (Kendrick) was just a freshman when she joined the women’s a cappella group Barden Bellas with Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson), Stacie (Alexis Knapp), Lilly (Hanna Mae Lee) among others. For this upcoming installment, we’re now being informed with the fact that it shall take place in their senior year, and it will be all about passing on the responsibilities, making the most of what’s left of their college year and finding out the next step.
“The girls are now graduating seniors. They’re coming to the end of their time as Bellas and figuring out how to sort of leave the next and the comfort of each other’s friendship and figure out what they’re going to do with the rest of their lives,” shared Banks.
Apart from the changes in their lives, the movie also features a much more magnified take in the film’s view of the musical style.
“It’s all about authenticity in the a cappella world. We really want to honor that and honor the people who are really doing it out there who we’re inspired by when we make the movie,” elaborates Banks.
According to Screen Rant, cameo appearances of actual a capella artists, Pentatonix, the Filharmonic and Penn Masala, are confirmed and definitely something for us to watch out for. Most of the actors will also be reprising their roles with Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Anna Camp, Brittany Snow, Hana Mae Lee, Alexis Knapp, Skylar Astin and Adam Devine. They are joined by Hailee Steinfield and Katey Sagal.
If “Pitch Perfect 2” really promises to be a vital tribute to the musicality of a cappella, then it’s safe for us to really look forward to its opening on May 15, 2015.
That ends our scoop on the upcoming “Pitch Perfect 2.” Keep tabs on Movie News Guide (MNG) for more updates in the entertainment world.
