“J.A. Bayona is squarely on board to direct though rumors surfaced recently that his involvement was on thin ice after being eyed to direct the Jurassic World follow-up. Sources say there was little Bayona could do given that he has a holding deal for World War Z 2, but the Jurassic World 2 overtures helped light a flame under Paramount to keep Bayona happy and get a new script in motion with the fanboy-friendly writer,” revealed The Hollywood Reporter.
Marc Forster was behind directing the first part which was made with a budget of $190 million and successfully collected $540 million on box office but this time “The Orphanage” and “The Impossible” fame director Bayona was approached by the studio due to his popularity and for giving huge hits.
We can understand the importance of Bayona for Paramount Pictures, that immediately after receiving the news of him being contacted by Universal Pictures. The script writing part which was in a dicey situation was allotted to new writer meaning the “Black Sea” fame Dennis Kelly. The co-production/financing part will be handled by Skydance Productions with a well-known production team namely, Brad Pitt, Jeremy Kleiner, Dede Gardner, Ian Bryce and Skydance’s David Ellison.
“World War Z 2” to hit screens on June 9, 2017, whereas “Jurassic World 2’s” will come on June 22, 2018, meaning almost after a year. So, the question here is whether Bayona will take charge of Jurassic’s second part after completing “World War Z 2” or not?
