Disney Announced Filming for Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass

Disney recently announced that “Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass” begins filming this week. Read on to know more about Movie News Guide’s (MNG) scoop.

It appears that Disney is going on back-to-back motions these days as Marvel Studios is not their only branch that is engaging on the production process but also the creators of the second “Alice in Wonderland” movie, “Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass.”

Based on the report from Slash Film, the second movie intends to revisit the beloved story of Lewis Carroll. Disney has revealed so little of the film’s main plot. The only inclination that they gave out to the public is the fact that it shall revolve in “an all-new tale that travels back to Underland – and back in Time.” Checking things from that passage alone, it’s quite unclear whether this new movie will serve as a sequel or a prequel to the previously released “Alice in Wonderland.”

Screen Rant’s report suggests that one of the film’s main premises could revolve around Mad Hatter’s past, as Rhys Ifans is set to play Zanik Hightopp who is known to be Mad Hatter’s dad.

The hit movie of 2010 which grossed more than $1 billion worldwide will have the main characters reprising their roles for this second installment. With that, the film still features the all-star ensemble cast including Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Mia Wasikowska, Helena Bonham Carter and the voice talents of Stephen Fry, Toby Jones, Alan Rickman, Michael Sheen and Timothy Spall. They will also be adding a few names in the list with Sacha Baron Cohen and Rhys Ifans.

As shocking as it may be, Tim Burton will not be reprising the role as the director of this twisted tale because he will be part of the collaborative efforts in producing it. He is then replaced by James Bobin. The screenplay writer of the movie, on the other hand, will be retained with Linda Woolvertoon. Alongside Burton, Joe Roth, Jennifer Todd, and Suzanne Todd will be working together to produce the entirety of the film. John G. Scotti is then appointed to be the executive producer. As of late, the film is due to start its initial filming phase at Shepperton Studios in England, and it is expected to secure the release date of May 27, 2016.

That sums up the current details about Disney’s “Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass.” Keep tabs on Movie News Guide (MNG) for the up-to-date information in the entertainment world.
