First Look at the Cover Art of Disney’s ‘Moana’
Earlier this year, Disney has unveiled release date plans for eight animated projects to be released throughout the year 2018. Disney unveils its next animated film entitled“Moana," which will be released in late 2016. Read on for more details on this story.
Deadline reported that Disney unveils the CG-animated comedy adventure as the studio's 56th animation pic. Disney veterans Ron Clements and John Musker, who have worked on previous Disney titles such as “Aladdin”, “The Little Mermaid” and “The Princess and the Frog” team up to direct the pic. “Moana” will be Clements and Musker's first computer-animated film.
Musker describes the pic heroine as “is indomitable, passionate and a dreamer with a unique connection to the ocean itself – She's the kind of character we all root for, and we can't wait to introduce her to audiences”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is set in the ancient South Pacific in the Oceania continent. The main protagonist named Moana Waialiki is a sea-voyaging enthusiast, the only daughter of a chief in a long line of navigators. During her journey to the fabled island, she sought the help of Maui, the legendary demi-god. Together, they will take on "action-packed voyage in which they encounter enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds, and ancient folklore."
Disney’s last animation pic "Frozen” was so successful it became the highest-grossing animated film of all time, as well as the highest-grossing film of 2013 and the fifth highest-grossing film of all time, grossing nearly $1.3 billion in worldwide box office revenue, gaining strongly positive critical response and winning several accolades. It seems Disney has opted to feature strong female leads, such as the case with Frozen’s Elsa and Anna, hoping that Moana might ride the same successes Frozen had with its female leads.
Moana’s announcement comes weeks before Big Hero 6’s release. Other animated pics the studio will be releasing on 2015 include “Inside Out” starring the voice of Amy Poehler and “The Good Dinosaur.”
