Theo James will play a lead role in Lakeshore Entertainment’s fifth installment of “Underworld.” James played the vampire, David, in “Underworld: Awakening” (2013). The new film is not a reboot. It is an expansion of the existing universe. According to sources, James was tapped due to his work on the previous installment, and he will be joined by two new female characters, whose roles are still in casting. Kate Beckinsale, who headlined the previous installments, will not likely be returning. The film is planned to start shooting in spring.
James have been prominent in films since “Underworld: Awakening” with his role in the “Divergent” franchise, in which he won a Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Actor: Action. James played Four, opposite lead Shailene Woodley who played Tris. “Divergent” received mixed reviews from critics but reached the #1 spot at the box office during its opening weekend. Since its release, the film has grossed over $286 million worldwide against its budget of $85 million, making it a financial success. Its sequel, “The Divergent Series: Insurgent,” which has just wrapped, is scheduled to be released on March 20, 2015 in the United States. James is also set to reprise his role on the upcoming “Allegiant Part 1 and Part 2.”
Aside from “Divergent,” James is also known for his roles as Jed Harper in “Bedlam” and Walter William Clark in the CBS crime drama, “Golden Boy.” Moreover, he has also wrapped two other projects, “London Fields” and “Franny”.
“Underworld 5” will be produced by Lakeshore’s Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi, with Cory Goodman to pen the script. Goodman has written scripts for films such as Paul Bettany’s “Priest.” He also wrote the script for Vin Diesel’s latest pic, “The Last Witch Hunter,” which is currently in production and is directed by Breck Eisner.
