It seems like it will not be a smooth-sailing month for the “Divergent” team as there were some issues with a certain Epic Battle scene just last month.

“Divergent” franchise started filming in mid-May, but just recently there were reports the there was a scene where Shailene Woodley’s character, Tris almost risked the lives of at least 30 child actors. They were placed at a serious risk when they filmed Tris’ epic battle scene in Georgia.

According to Deadline, the children were seen scrambling through a gauntlet with at least 100 untrained adult extras.

A witness reported that the untrained adult extras were swinging varying weapons; axes and machetes that were made of steel and aluminum, with bladed edges, and some were in fact quite sharp—but luckily nobody was seriously harmed during the first day of shooting of the battle scene.

Apparently this witness got the IATSE Local 479 in Atlanta involved to prevent the possibility of a serious incident that may occur during the intense scene.

The same witness noted that everyone in the set seemed to know that what they were doing was wrong, but still, no one was willing to step up. The witness added that it seems that saving money—the expense of rubber props—took priority over safety measures. These things concerns the witness since there were children involved in that very scene. “I personally saw four people trip and fall just because of the footing on the set, and several people were given medical care for heat exhaustion,” the witness explained.

On the second day of filming, dangerous weapons were swapped for rubber ones. The witness was relieved and said that in this way, at least there wouldn’t be a possibility of seeing some child lose an eye or watch somebody get injured by a blade as they ran around.

Meanwhile. Lionsgate production started to investigate the incident and also claimed that the safety of their actors, both leads and extras, is their utmost priority.

On the other hand, different news site released a series of new photos from the set of “Allegiant – Part 1” where Woodley alongside with her co-stars Octavia Spencer, Zoe Kravitz and Keiynan Lonsdale were featured.

“Allegiant: Part 1” is set to release on May 18, 2016.
