‘Doctor Strange’ is going to be a ‘mind-trip action’ movie
The magic of “Doctor Strange,” which launches in Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has started making its way online as filming has started and photos plus videos on set started leaking out. But the magic also makes it way into Phase Two as a featurette is included in the new boxed set released today.
Marvel Entertainment and Disney will be releasing a 13-disc “Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase Two Collection” boxed set. In it are all six Phase Two films (that’s from 2013’s “Iron Man 3” down to this year’s “Ant-Man”), a “Guardians of the Galaxy” replica orb, other memorabilia, and teasers to the upcoming Phase Three films, which happens to include “Doctor Strange.” So what type of teaser did the mystical superhero get?
According to USA Today, Stephen Strange got a mini feature in which Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige and director Scott Derrickson briefly described the film as “mind-trip action.” That description does seem right up Strange’s alley, as his origins is expected to explore some magic, some hocus pocus, and probably some crazy visuals to match the mysticism. After all, the two said in the featurette that translating to screen the magic from the comic books is “one of the primary goals of [the “Doctor Strange”] movie.”
The two also touched on the casting of “Sherlock” star Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead role. The two agreed that the British actor has what it takes to portray the many layers of the neurosurgeon-turned-mystical superhero.
“Benedict has got an incredibly complicated emotional structure going on,” Derrickson said.
Joining Cumberbatch in unfolding the emotional structures of Stephen Strange are the other cast members Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Mads Mikkelsen, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Tilda Swinton.
Also featuring in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase Three is the much-awaited “Captain America: Civil War,” which releases next year on May 6.
“Doctor Strange” rolls out to theatres on November 4, 2016.
