Downey Jr. becomes Highest Paid Actor
Forbes magazine’s list of the highest paid actors is now topped by Robert Downey Jr. Downey has come full circle from wearing jailhouse garb to black tuxedos on the red carpet and large bank accounts.
Downey is at the top of the annual list with estimated earnings of $75 million. Following behind Downey in second place was Channing Tatum and in third Hugh Jackman.
The annual list by the magazine is compiled through speaking to producers, mangers, agents as well as other knowledgeable people to estimate the earnings of each individual star from June of last year through June of this year.
The top spot held by Downey is even sweeter for him because of how much he fell during the 1990s, when he was addicted to drugs, was arrested and was in and out of both rehab and jail. At that time, Hollywood looked at Downey as talented by uninsurable damaged goods.
What the actor was able to live through killed other actors who had problems with substance abuse. Heath Ledger died and just this past weekend, the entertainment world lost Cory Monteith to an alcohol and heroin overdose.
However, Downey was able to survive his darkest moments and today he is the new hit machine.
In six movies he has starred in, over $500 million was earned at the box office for each. Two of the six the latest Iron Man 3 and last year’s The Avengers each took in box office receipts of more than $1 billion.
He is definitely back and better than ever.
